On her weekly Sinclair TV show Full Measure on August 18, former CBS News correspondent Sharyl Attkisson interviewed pollster Scott Rasmussen about journalists’ standing in the public square. They’re about as trusted as Wikipedia, the website considered so unreliable that school teachers often tell students they can’t cite them as a source for their research papers. Only 38 percent said national political coverage is accurate and reliable, while 42 percent said it was not.
Investigative journalist Sharyl Attkisson began the latest edition of her weekly syndicated show Full Measure with an in-depth report on the growing distrust of the media. The package focused heavily on the results of a poll conducted for Full Measure by pollster Scott Rasmussen, which had some devastating results for media credibility. In summation, Rasmussen concluded that voters see journalists as a “political activist, not as a source of information.”
The liberal media uproar over Sinclair Broadcasting was as predictable as snow in a blizzard. First comes the news that one Justin Simmons has quit his job as a producer at a Nebraska Sinclair outlet. The CNN headline was this: "Sinclair producer in Nebraska resigns to protest 'obvious bias’"
In an obnoxious and greatly misleading article published on Wednesday, CNN media reporter Brian Stelter championed former KHGI-TV producer Justin Simmons for quitting his job at a Sinclair Broadcast Group-owned ABC affiliate in Nebraska following the controversy of their scripted promise to be factual. While Stelter tried to portray Simmons as a down-the-middle journalist standing up to corrupt conservative state propaganda, his subject has a long history steeped in the leftist anti-Trump resistance movement.
CBS has finally discovered bias and conflicts of interest. Just not the kind impacting co-host Gayle King. On Thursday, Norah O’Donnell and Paula Reid hyperventilated about Sinclair broadcasting requiring stations to play a PSA declaring a commitment to objectivity and truth.
To accompany his Facebook post unleashing a torrent of disdain for the Sinclair Broadcast Group (SBG), disgraced former CBS Evening News anchor Dan Rather used his weekly show on the far-left network The Young Turks to expand on the Sinclair ad controversy, denouncing it as “Orwellian” “propaganda” while deeming press criticism as authoritarian behavior.
In a 60-second promo, the local anchors in each market read a script by their employers at Sinclair, and the Trump-hating media gave birth to a large cow. The script expressed alarm about the "sharing of biased and false news" on social media, and professed a "commitment to factual reporting." This is preciesly what the left-wing media would say about Fox News. But this was about them.
Normally, HLN’s S.E. Cupp Unfiltered can be counted on to push back against the liberal media when they get stirred up into one of their nonsensical frenzies with the most recent case being the gun control debate. But on Tuesday, Cupp parroted the CNN company line by condemning Sinclair Broadcast Group as nothing more than state-owned propaganda. She even took it a step farther and compared them to Heaven’s Gate suicide cult.
Since Sunday night, the liberal media have been haranguing network affiliate owner Sinclair Broadcast Group (SBG) for a new “must-run” promo that warned against “biased and false news.” The two have slammed it as Trump-backed “state-run TV” on par with the former Soviet outlet Pravda that's “chilling,” frightening” and “a really embarrassing moment for journalism.” A NewsBusters study examined the two cable networks on April 2 found that CNN spent 76 minutes and 42 seconds while MSNBC hyperventilated for nearly twice as long at 134 minutes and 42 seconds.
For the second day in a row, the legacy media has found itself obsessed with the controversy surrounding Sinclair Broadcast Group's promotion denouncing fake news and promising journalistic honesty and integrity. CNN's New Day presented no exception to the media hysteria, with co-host Alisyn Camerota comparing the promos to hostage videos.
On Monday, disgraced CBS anchor Dan Rather attacked Sinclair Broadcast Group in a rambling Facebook post because they had their anchors read promotional statements promising to be factual in their reporting. Of course, the man who sank his own career with a fake news story he still believes has a problem with people promising to tell the truth.
