The New York Times’s Cara Buckley (“a culture reporter who covers bias and equity in Hollywood”), complained Hollywood wasn’t embedding enough climate change messaging in their blockbuster movies in Saturday’s “Hollywood Sells Doom, Not Hope On Climate -- Critics say villains and dystopias obscure crisis-alleviating actions.” One suspects that the complaint that in some films “environmentalist are criminals” is the true concern: Perhaps Buckley and company are just annoyed that left-wing environmentalists sometimes feature as movie villains, as opposed to the usual villain of corporate raider or military madman?



The stand-up comic Jim Gaffigan’s new film caught him by surprise, but not for anything in the movie itself. He noticed how professional film critics treated the tale of a man fronting not one but two families. Gaffigan shared his dismay at the film’s critical reaction on the latest episode of “The Joe Rogan Experience.”

That’s the predicament Disney is in after the star of its newest live action remake is being blasted for her support of the pro-Beijing authoritarians accused of bludgeoning pro-democratic Hong Kong protestors.



At this writing, the Chinese communist regime looks ready to crack down on protesters in Hong Kong. It remains to be seen whether the standoff ends in a Tiananmen Square-style bloodbath, but the demonstrations pose a direct challenge to the Chinese government, and Beijing will respond forcefully -- its what authoritarian regimes do.



With so many movies being made at any time, some people have come to prefer films that are not part of a huge franchise, while others look for new and different ideas. While the second choice might seem like it's always a good thing, a new film these days could contain very disturbing images or unlikable characters that can turn off the average movie fan. That’s certainly the case with a film from Universal Studios entitled The Hunt, in which the heroes are “several so-called deplorables from red states who have to fight back after several rich liberals kidnap them and try to murder them for sport.”



If you needed any more proof of how much Hollywood is obsessed with sexualizing children, look no further than this review in The Hollywood Reporter by film critic Todd McCarthy. McCarthy criticized Paramount’s theatrical release Dora and the Lost City of Gold because he felt that the child characters weren’t sexualized enough. As one blog put it, his review came off as very “pervy.”



On August 4th, two horrific shootings in El Paso, Texas and Dayton, Ohio shocked the nation. The great cinematic mind that brought us the first tween dream Twilight movie has made the heroic leap to directing feminist fan fiction. According to a July 24 Deadline report, director Catherine Hardwicke has signed on to a lesbian viking film called Heathen -- an adaptation of a Vault Comics series of the same name. The story is a radical twist on Marvel’s Thor, rivalling Disney's upcoming female Thor film.



You follow the antics of AOC and the so-called "Squad" of hers and you wonder if the Left has lost its mind. Your instincts are correct. And if it's any comfort to them, they're not alone. In fact there are even loonier elements loose among the elites.  



Hollywood financiers are investing in the local contender this presidential election season, donating far and away the most money to California Senator Kamala Harris’ campaign out of all the Democratic candidates. Harris has received a whopping 48% of all candidate donations from Hollywood since beginning her campaign, making it clear who movie industry players want to see in the White House in 2021.



Hollywood Director Joss Whedon of Buffy the Vampire Slayer fame was the 8th highest donor to outside spending groups for the 2020 election cycle, according to Open Secrets. The only group he donated to was an extreme anti-gun super PAC. Although his own films often involve gun violence, Whedon gave left-wing gun-control PAC One Vote At A Time $245,000 so far in 2019. The group described itself as “a team of female filmmakers dedicated to the eradication of gun violence.”
