Spin, Spin, Spin! The famous Benny Goodman tune was "Sing, Sing, Sing" but one could be forgiven if the Spin tune title comes to mind along with the tune while reading Washington Post columnist E.J. Dionne's furious and often laughable spin on what is obviously for him a very disappointing Mueller Report. His highly entertaining spin control took place on Sunday in "Six takeaways from Barr’s letter about Mueller’s probe."
The liberal media spent two years smearing President Trump and trying to delegitimize his presidency with Robert Mueller's investigation, which ending up exonerating him on collusion. Naturally, something like that calls for a victory lap and several spiked footballs. But Monday’s NBC Nightly News was not having any of it as chief White House correspondent Hallie Jackson chided the President’s “vindictiveness” in victory.
Attorney General William Barr's inclusion of the phrase “does not exonerate” in his summary of the Mueller report has become a much-needed security blanket for liberal journalists. For the past 24 hours, CNN analysts, commentators, correspondents, and hosts have clung to the phrase, repeating it ad nauseam in a vain attempt to reassure themselves that maybe — just maybe — President Trump might still be found guilty of obstruction of justice.
During Sunday’s so-called Reliable Sources on CNN (before we learned there was no collusion), the liberal media’s janitor, Brian Stelter was rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic as he played defense for the media’s two years of speculation in the face of no new indictments expected from the Special Counsel. Now, given the Special Counsel’s findings of no collusion, Stelter looked even more buffoonish.
As NewsBusters illustrated all day on Sunday, MSNBC’s nonsense was shooting out into the ether like water from a fire hose During the 6:00 p.m. Eastern hour, so-called experts offered hot takes such as “the Russians have clearly won” and “Mueller basically seem to abdicate or punt on” the obstruction portion of the investigation.
As news of the Mueller report’s arrival broke late Friday afternoon, newscasts scrambled to adequately cover a story that is sure to shake up the nation’s political landscape. Our major domestic Spanish-language newscasts were no different, but there was a clear tonal difference in how news of the Mueller report was covered.
In an attempt by network journalists to console themselves and their liberal viewers over Special Counsel Robert Mueller clearing President Trump of Russian collusion, on Monday, the NBC, ABC, and CBS morning shows eagerly listed “scores” of other investigations Democrats were pursuing against the President, promising that Trump’s “legal problems continue.”
There’s no two ways about it: Robert Mueller is a heartbreaker. He led the Democrats, the media and Hollywood on for two years, loving them and leaving them with “No Collusion.” To Hollywood lefties, there’s nothing for it but sobbing into a pint of Haagen-Daaz. Hopefully, it’s Chocolate Chip Crow flavored.
Who better than Hillary Clinton’s 2016 campaign manager to weigh in on the Mueller Report? That was the attitude on CBS This Morning, Monday, as the show’s hosts brought on John Podesta to make predictions in the wake of the release. Asking for advice, co-host John Dickerson wondered, “What do you think the next move should be for Democrats on the hill in terms of they want to see the rest of the report? But then they also, you know, can get bogged down in this for the next two years of the administration?”
One of Google and YouTube’s trusted partners is not exactly trustworthy when it comes to reporting the facts. Google and YouTube elevated Wikipedia to the level of fact by using the volunteer-run encyclopedia site to fill in the blanks on “Knowledge Panels.”
Big Tech has tried to shut down conspiracy theories online, but after the release of the Mueller Report on Sunday, bias watchdogs and conservative leaders are asking when RussiaGate will be treated the same way. Conservative commentator Michelle Malkin tweeted: “Since Silicon Valley companies are cracking down on harmful conspiracy theory disseminators, when will they start shadow-banning, suspending & throttling 99.99% of MSM's thoroughly discredited Russia collusion crackpots. #TickTock.” Malkin addressed Big Tech bias in her fiery speech at CPAC.
Liberals and the media were obsessed with the idea that President Donald Trump colluded with Russia. California billionaire Tom Steyer expected the investigation would provide proof of “collusion.” He cited it as one of 10 reasons to impeach Trump and he’s not backing down, even now that the FBI special investigation of Trump is over without finding any collusion with Russia.
