Appearing as a panel member on Monday's Anderson Cooper 360, longtime liberal CNN commentator Paul Begala acted like a misinformed man who gets all his news by watching too much CNN as he not only made incorrect claims about illegal immigration across the Southern border, but he also contradicted himself on whether there is a "crisis" situation on the border.
Trump’s approval rating among Latinos has hit 50%, as I wrote it would nearly three years ago, in March of 2016. His approval rating could go on to surpass even this marker by addressing the border crisis at its source. This would be a disruptive, transformational development for all of Latin America.
On Thursday's New Day show, CNN's John Avlon presented another of his infamous "Reality Check" segments which is more akin to liberal spin than an actual effort to clearly inform viewers about the issues. The CNN analyst argued against a border wall as he cited Politifact to dismiss claims of 2,000 homicides being committed by illegal immigrants in one year being reported by ICE for FY2018.
Friday’s New York Times covered the start of the second term of Venezuelan autocrat Nicholas Maduro, but managed to avoid unflattering descriptions like that, in “With Venezuela in Free Fall, Its President Starts New Term." Yet other stories on Friday tossed around the word “autocrat” to complain about President Trump’s embrace of Egypt’s leadership. Also as usual, the Times’ use of the S-word (socialism) was limited and perhaps even positive, even though socialist economics have ravaged oil-rich Venezuela and rendered it a starving basket case.
Between Monday evening and Wednesday morning, a significant number of journalists and regular commentators across CNN, MSNBC, and even Fox News have cited claims from a handful of flawed studies claiming that illegal immigrants commit crimes at a lower rate than do American citizens. But, as previously documented by NewsBusters, the conclusions of these studies are highly questionable while a few studies have suggested a higher crime rate by illegals.
On Saturday's Weekends with Alex Witt on MSNBC, NBC contributor Kurt Bardella flipped out when he was faced with something rarely seen on MSNBC -- a right-leaning guest who actually made a conservative argument counter to the network's left-leaning guests, as opposed to the typical MSNBC Republicans who often agree with liberals.
In the aftermath of about 150 migrants attacking Border Patrol agents and trying to break across the border from Mexico late New Year's Eve night, the broadcast networks have barely given attention to the story as ABC ignored it entirely, CBS gave it 24 seconds Wednesday morning only, and NBC gave it a half minute at the beginning of the same day's Today with a brief followup later, while an additional 13 seconds made it onto NBC Nightly News.
On Wednesday's MSNBC Live with Stephanie Ruhle, liberal talk radio host and frequent MSNBC guest Mark Thompson declared that baby Jesus, as an immigrant, would have been separated from his parents and might have died in detention if he had lived under President Donald Trump's rule.
On Wednesday's New Day, during a report about a group of more than 100 illegal immigrants trying to rush the border from Mexico into California that threw rocks at Border Patrol agents, CNN correspondent Leyla Santiago suggested that President Donald Trump was to blame for the violence as she cited complaints by illegal immigration advocates about the administration making it more difficult to have asylum requests accepted.
I don't think Jim VandeHei realized what a stunning admission he was making. Discussing the shutdown impasse over funding the border wall, the Axios co-founder said: "I think the [Dem] party's changed on immigration. I think the feeling that they have to appear to be really strong by supporting a lot more border security, that that has waned, and that the enthusiasm of the Democratic party is for protecting immigrants." What kind of immigrants surreptitiously cross the border? By definition, they are illegal immigrants. So VandeHei's statement amounts to a stinging indictment of the Dems. Democrats have "enthusiasm" for protecting illegal immigrants over protecting the borders of the United States.
On Friday afternoon's CNN Newsroom with Brooke Baldwin, CNN contributor Sally Kohn displayed the latest example of liberals conflating legal asylum seekers with those who cross the border illegally as she claimed that Central American caravan members were not really illegal immigrants. She made this claim even though many crossed the U.S. border illegally through the desert while some tried to rush the border and had to be repelled with teargas.
On CNN, after pointing the finger at President Trump for the deaths of immigrant children at the border, Alisyn Camerota tries to cover her tracks, saying: "not to cast any blame." Right.
