When it comes to the liberal media and President Trump, it's damned if you do, damned if you don't. MSNBC gave a classic example of the phenomenon this morning. In the days leading up to the Salute to America parade, the liberal media had savaged it, and in particular the prospect of tanks rolling down the streets of DC. But when the event actually unfolded, and instead of tanks rolling down the streets, armored vehicles were parked rather inconspicuously on display, that was no good, either. To the contrary, during this morning's 6 am EDT hour, the MSNBC crew kvetched that the parade didn't live up to the ostentatious standards of North Korea or France!
While the liberal media on-site spent portions of Thursday chastising President Trump for his Ingraham Angle interview in the Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial prior to his moving speech marking the 75th anniversary of D-Day, MSNBC’s Hardball host Chris Matthews told viewers that he was uneasy with his colleagues in the press “talk[ing] nasty boy politics in front of the graves.” How refreshing!
Thursday is the 75th anniversary of D-Day, which was one of the most consequential military victories in world history. MSNBC, overall, took a break from its daily crusade against the Trump administration in order to honor the men who stormed the beaches of Normandy. Morning Joe, however, just couldn’t help itself.
Both ABC and CBS managed to keep the sacredness of the 75th anniversary of D-Day intact Thursday by keeping divisive domestic politics largely out of their flagship evening newscasts that night. But NBC once again proved that they kept little above exploiting every opportunity to go after President Trump and pushing for his removal from office. NBC Nightly News was particularly excited this time because Politico had reported that Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) was looking to put the President in prison once he left office.
On Thursday, President Trump gave a speech at Omaha Beach to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the D-Day landing that was widely praised in the media and even by those who are usually his fierce critics. However, MSNBC Live with Craig Melvin guest host Geoff Bennett seemed to wonder if Trump really meant what he said.
No matter the occasion, whether it be a funeral for a former President, hurricane, sitting Senator, or mass shooting, the liberal media will never stop trying to make news events about President Trump. On Thursday’s Deadline: White House, host Nicolle Wallace went ballistic (along with her panel) over the President “attacking” “American hero” and “Vietnam War veteran, Robert S. Mueller” on the 75th anniversary of D-Day.
During an exclusive interview with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi at D-Day commemorations in France on Thursday, MSNBC anchor Andrea Mitchell worried that the Trump administration’s push to reduce illegal immigration may “threaten” the “values” that World War II troops “fought and died for.”
On MSNBC’s Deadline: White House Wednesday, host Nicolle Wallace weighed in on President Trump’s “cringeworthy” trip to the United Kingdom and, naturally, Wallace and her guests (including two former Obama administration officials), trashed Brexit and President Trump’s “America First” m antra as “xenophobic.” And for good measure, they called into question his mental health.
Reason #475,614 Why Nobody Respects the News Media: It’s the 75th anniversary of D-Day. Getting a little choked up about the endless lines of white crosses and the few stooped and wizened survivors being rolled slowly among them? Feeling slightly in awe of men who could scale Pointe du Hoc, drag themselves up the shingle on Omaha or jump from an airplane into a fire-blasted night? Feeling, well, a touch grateful? Yeah, well, get over it.
Sometimes you really have to wonder if the hosts of The View actually listen to anything coming out of their mouths. On Thursday’s show alone, the hosts politicized D-Day numerous times, connecting it to gay pride month in one segment, and in another segment, tying it to the southern border crisis. In that latter segment, co-hosts Joy Behar and Sunny Hostin raged at the “illegal” and “despicable” funding cuts to recreational programs for illegal alien minors, while Whoopi Goldberg claimed our soldiers died fighting in Normandy so we could take care of illegal alien kids.
Appearing on MSNBC Thursday morning, just hours after President Trump delivered his address in Normandy marking the 75th anniversary of the D-Day invasion, former NBC Nightly News anchor Tom Brokaw and chief foreign affairs correspondent Andrea Mitchell both expressed their “surprise” that Trump was “presidential” in his speech.
Joe Scarborough, Mika Brzezinski, and Willie Geist offer surprising praise of President Trump's speech on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of D-Day, calling it "really good, terrific," and the "most powerful speech" he's given as POTUS.
