I am offended at the Newseum’s T-shirt. Take a look at the label of this t-shirt at the Newseum's gift shop being offered for sale. It is described thusly: “Ladies Alternative Facts Tee.” On the shirt itself it defines “Alternative Fact” as follows: 1. A false statement delivered with deliberate intent to mislead or to deceive. Synonym: lie, prevarication, untruth.
If you read any number of my previous columns, then you’re familiar with my thoughts on the Hallmark Channel. The company seemed like an unlikely team trying to save American culture from Hollywood’s ongoing politicization and smut. Yet, here they are creating high quality, apolitical, and original family-friendly movies and shows that the entertainment industry has been ignoring lately. And that especially appeals greatly to red states.
Entertainment writers need a 12-step program to cure their addiction to late night TV. In the Age of Trump outlets like Deadline.com, TheWrap.com and even the Associated Press feverishly churn out stories based on what late night comics say. Just jokes? Not to these smitten journalists. More specifically, it’s every slam uttered against President Trump and the GOP. Although said outlets are so addicted to late night fare now they regurgitate apolitical bits.
Before he became the disgraced Brian Williams known for making stuff up, the NBC journalist was best known for some outrageous examples of media bias. On August 5, 2005, the then-Nightly News anchor interrogated Enola Gay navigator Dutch Van Kirk about dropping the atomic bomb on Hiroshima: “Do you have remorse for what happened? How do you deal with that in your mind?”
Jarrett Bell's USA Today re-cap of Thursday's opening NFL exhibition game protests can be best summarized as "three cheers for the social justice warriors!" who stood up to President Donald Trump (see his tweets in photo). Bell lauds the SJW's for their actions: "A knee here, a fist there," as opposed to the "Obligatory tweet-bashing from President Trump. Yes, the NFL is back for another round of football, social consciousness, patriotism and politics."
Hope springs eternal for Democrats in the pages of the New York Times. Thursday’s lead story by Alexander Burns and Jonathan Martin provided Democratic predictions for winning the House in the November elections: “Clarity in Election Fog: Fall Holds Peril for G.O.P.” The reporters made hay over GOP struggles, and again exploited criminal charges faced by Rep. Chris Collins to make a pro-Democratic prediction. Other stories alternately pushed female candidates and mocked them, depending on party label.
A supposed Trump voter has been revealed as an anti-Trump socialist. His antipathy towards Trump dates back before the 2016 election when he supposedly voted for him. This information was easily obtained from the Web yet "facts first" CNN went through the charade of presenting him as a Trump voter.
The Political Correctness Police, starting with perpetually victimized GLAAD (the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) and a group called “50/50 by 2020," are trying to impose quotas on everything Hollywood does. They are part of an open letter signed by titans of the Hollywood Left demanding an “unprecedented cultural moment.” They demand the entertainment elite “use its power to improve the lives of trans people by changing America’s understanding of who trans people are.”
Between Thursday and Friday, CNN's New Day show has twice covered the story of a white police officer in Nashville who shot and killed a black suspect who, although armed, appears to have been running from him in surveillance video. But the same show lately has paid little attention to recent cases in which police officers have been attacked or killed, appearing to be more interested in stories that make the police look bad, especially those that involve racial issues.
On Friday, ABC’s World News Tonight and NBC Nightly News showed zero restraint when it came to salacious, unverified claims in an upcoming book by former White House aide and reality TV firebrand Omarosa Manigault-Newman that President Trump used the n-word. Even though there’s already contradictions emerging, both eagerly led with and reported them anyway.
New York Times stringer Daniel Politi teamed with the paper’s Brazil bureau chief Ernesto Londono to cover a failed attempt in Argentina to legalize abortion in the first 14 weeks of a pregenancy: “Though Abortion Bill Failed in Argentina, a Movement Took Hold -- A Narrow Loss Inspires Women.” The text box to Friday’s story assured the paper’s pro-choice readership: “‘Abortion will be legal soon. Very soon,’ one woman said.” The online version carried a Reuters photo of “An abortion-rights supporter in Buenos Aires on Thursday after a bill to legalize abortion was defeated.” Who, by the way, was in the act of throwing a colored smoke bomb. The text ignored the eruptions of violence in the aftermath of the defeat of the abortion bill, which it usually does when it comes to left-wing protest violence
Liberal director Spike Lee took advantage of an interview on Thursday's Anderson Cooper 360 to promote his new movie, BlacKkKlansman, which the filmmaker claimed is “not just a history lesson” even though it takes place during the 1970s.As you might expect, it didn’t take long for the discussion to degenerate into attacks on GOP President Donald Trump, whose “toxic” comments and acts have led Lee to refer to him as “Agent Orange,” a man who is leading “a rise to the right” not just in America, but worldwide as well.
In light of new conservative Supreme Court nominations, the left has been in abject fear over any possible restriction on abortion, and has been lashing out. Their new target is the Hollywood production of Roe v. Wade. And although director Nick Loeb has remained adamant that things are going smoothly and that he has been maintaining the cast and production levels he had originally planned to have, the scathing “fake news” reports have been circling his project.
Early Friday, NewsBusters reported that CNN spent only one minute of airtime on the recanting of a former Ohio State University wrestler’s allegations against Ohio Republican Congressman Jim Jordan. After reviewing coverage of the original NBC article which leveled the claims against Jordan, NewsBusters found that there was a massive discrepancy in reporting.
