CNN's Piers Morgan Receives Holiday Jeers for His Harsh Stance on Gun Control

December 27th, 2012 11:05 AM

This is the time of year when people dream of a Merry Christmas, wish others a Happy New Year and celebrate other enjoyable holidays.

One apparently notable exception this year is CNN's Piers Morgan, whose tirade against the Second Amendment has probably made him yearn for getting a piece of coal in his Christmas stocking instead of a White House petition calling for him to return to his native England and another poll from that country demanding that he remain in the U.S.

Taking advantage of the massacre of 26 people -- including 20 children -- on December 14 at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., by 20-year-old Adam Lanza to promote his gun control agenda, Morgan has been relentless in hammering any guest who dares to disagree with him. He even called a gun rights guest “unbelievably stupid” and “dangerous.”

Incidents like that led a supporter of the Second Amendment in Austin, Texas, to initiate a petition on the White House website that reads:

British Citizen and CNN television host Piers Morgan is engaged in a hostile attack against the U.S. Constitution by targeting the Second Amendment. We demand that Mr. Morgan be deported immediately for his effort to undermine the Bill of Rights and for exploiting his position as a national network television host to stage attacks against the rights of American citizens.

It didn't take long for the petition to surpass the total of 68,000 posts to guarantee that the Obama administration will look into the matter. On Wednesday, the number of signatures reached 75,309.

Nevertheless, on Saturday, Morgan posted a tweet that stated:

“Ironic U.S. gun rights campaign to deport me for 'attacking 2nd Amendment rights' -- is my opinion not protected under 1st Amendment rights?”

Of course, no one was attempting to take away his right to free speech; instead, the petition signers expect him to accept the consequences of his actions without any more whining or bullying his guests.

Showing that he still has some Christmas spirit, Morgan posted another tweet on Saturday: “Merry Christmas! Even to those who want me deported.”

The situation took an unexpected turn on Christmas Day, when people from Great Britain began a White House petition of their own, entitled “Keep Piers Morgan in the USA.”

We want to keep Piers Morgan in the USA. There are two very good reasons for this. Firstly, the First Amendment. Second and the more important point. No one in the UK wants him back. Actually, there is a third: It will be hilarious to see how loads of angry Americans react.

As of Wednesday, the number of people who have signed that poll is 1,423 posts out of the 23,577 needed to guarantee action by President Obama and his administration.

And on the website Change.org, another petition is asking Theresa May, home secretary in the British government, to “Stop Piers Morgan from being deported back to the UK from America “

We got rid of him once, and why should we have to suffer again? The Americans wanted him, so they should put up with him. We washed our hands of him a long time ago.

Joining in the criticism of Morgan was Jeremy Clarkson, host of the wildly popular “Top Gear” program in England, who tweeted on Christmas Eve: “Americans. It took us 40 years to get rid of Piers Morgan. Please don't send him back,” and “Americans. Was the second amendment not introduced to protect you from the tyranny of the British? Piers Morgan, in other words.”

But on Christmas, another shooting gave Morgan more ammunition for his campaign on stricter gun control. William Spangler, a 62-year-old convicted killer, set his house in Webster, New York, on fire and gunned down two of the firefighters who came to the rescue.

I don't care about petition to deport me. I do care about poor NY firefighters murdered/injured with an assault weapon today. #GunControlNow."

The CNN host's comment is interesting when compared to an article on the Daily Caller site written by political reporter Caroline May, who stated that Morgan “is a man without a country … sort of.”

May quoted Steven Nott of South Wales, a former colleague of Morgan's, as stating: “Dear America, you deport Piers Morgan, and he’ll be straight back into LA before you know it.”
