Mike Huckabee: Media Boycotting Catholics Suing Obama 'Like Missing the Roe v. Wade Decision'

NewsBusters for days has been strongly admonishing the media for ignoring the recent lawsuit by numerous Catholic entities against the Obama administration for its contraception mandate.

Appearing on Fox & Friends Saturday, former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee likened this press boycott to "not covering the 'I Have a Dream' speech by Martin Luther King in 1963. It’s like missing the Roe v. Wade decision and not thinking that’s significant. It’s like somehow missing Brown versus Board of Education" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

ALISYN CAMEROTA: 43 Catholic entities are now suing the Obama administration because of that healthcare mandate that stipulates that they have to provide contraception coverage. That seems like a big story, yet the, most of the media outlets have not covered this massive lawsuit. Why not?

MIKE HUCKABEE: It’s like not covering the “I Have a Dream” speech by Martin Luther King in 1963. It’s like missing the Roe v. Wade decision and not thinking that’s significant. It’s like somehow missing Brown versus Board of Education.

This is one of the most significant historic lawsuits in the past 100 years because what you have are the major diocese and the most significant parts of the largest Christian body in the world suing the President of the United States. That is not small potatoes.

And let’s remember, the Catholics are not historically a Republican organization, even right-leaning. Typically I think Catholics tend to vote more Democratic than Republican. So you can’t say this is some partisan effort to embarrass this president. This is the last resort by people of conviction and faith who realize that this is a government that has grossly overstepped its Constitutional authority, and it’s done exactly what the first amendment prohibited it from doing.

Huckabee of course was right about Catholics not historically being Republicans. As NewsBusters reported last Monday, recent polls find a plurality of Catholics supporting or leaning Democrat.
