In a year marked by many profoundly stupid comments by liberal celebrities, HBO’s Bill Maher emerged as the winner of the “Celebrity Dumbass Award” for the Media Research Center’s 2016 DisHonors Awards, Thursday night. Most definitely earning the award’s title, the Real Time host sneered that the Constitution “sucks” and that it “needs a page one re-write.”
A happy and energetic group of conservatives attended the MRC’s gala at the National Building Museum in Washington D.C. to laugh and shake their heads at the most outrageous examples of liberal media bias. Though the “Dumbass” competition was strong, Maher won for a June 24 quote from his HBO program.
Talking about a failure to pass gun control, he whined, “Our system sucks. It really does. The Constitution needs a page one re-write.”
Conservative author and writer Deneen Borelli presented the award and Lt. Gen. (Ret.) William G. Boykin, Executive Vice President of the Family Research Council accepted. Borelli sarcastically mocked Maher’s “scholastic analysis of American rule of law.”
After making some jokes about the category itself, General Boykin got serious and talked about the struggle America is facing:
LT. GENERAL WILLIAM G. BOYKIN: I don’t know what the future for America, only God does. But I know that, regardless of which way this election goes, we are going to continue to be in a battle... We are in a battle and we have to stand and fight against the evil that is in our country today. And I believe that we are going to see this nation do a turn for the better.

The winning quote, as well as the two runners up, can be found below:
"I saw David Cameron today. You know, I'm up at 2:00 in the morning when this all happens. So I watched his whole speech and it's like ‘well, I lost the vote, I graciously leave office.' It's like their system works so beautifully. We can't even get a vote on something that 90 percent of Americans agree on and can't get a vote. Our system sucks. It really does. The Constitution needs a page one re-write."
– Bill Maher on HBO's Real Time, June 24, reacting the House not taking up gun control bills and the Brexit vote in Britain.
"I love Bernie. I love the ideas that he's got. To me, it's like somebody who went to Woodstock who now is running for President. And it's all those ideals, let's just make the world a great place, and legalize this, and free health care, and free college, and going for all of that. Great ideas. But that thing called ‘Congress,' you know, is a problem."
— Actor Jeff Daniels on Bloomberg TV's With All Due Respect, May 9.
"I actually am aroused by him [Bernie Sanders]. I'm serious. I find him to be eye candy, not ear candy, eye candy. I like an old Jewish guy who's a socialist. That's my type of guy. Everybody is talking about [former Maryland Governor Martin] O'Malley and how hot he was. But to me, Bernie is hot."
