Bozell and Hannity Dissect Ed Schultz Flunking Math for Boasting of ‘Popularity’ of ObamaCare

In their weekly “Media Mash” segment, Fox host Sean Hannity and MRC president Brent Bozell discussed Ed Schultz’s latest embarrassing rant: that Speaker John Boehner is guilty of “treason” over the shutdown and that the “popularity” of Obamacare is just “killing” conservatives.

Hannity began: “Eddie Schultz is back, the guy that wanted to rip Dick Cheney's heart out, stomp on it and shove it back in him. He's frothing at the mouth about treasonous John Boehner.” (Video and transcript below)

ED SCHULTZ, MSNBC HOST: Obamacare is off to a great start. FOX News hates it. And the people are signing up for health care are doing it, and they love it. And they're finding out it's not all that expensive. This is why they're freaking out about Obamacare. The popularity is killing them. This is why they are talking about default. They will shut down the government and they will not pay the bills to get their way. The word is "treason," the treasonous John Boehner.

HANNITY: I wonder what Williams and Brokaw and Lauer think of this knucklehead, this idiot.

BOZELL: Let's dissect it. Number one, he says the American people love it. In fact it is at an all-time low in popularity, and all we are hearing is nightmare stories coast to coast of people who are being destroyed by this. Number two, he then says it is not all that expensive. We just learned this today. The website healthcare.gov was supposed to cost $94 million. Do you know how much it's cost so far?

HANNITY: How much?

BOZELL: It's $634 million, seven times more expensive than they projected. How do you think the program will work? Thirdly, what he's saying is if you believe in privatization that's treason. That's what Karl Marx believed.

The Media Mash duo also discussed this strange notion from Chris Matthews that President Obama wasn’t rhetorically harsh enough. “Clarence [Page], I wanted to ask you about this. The President is using, I think, the right words. He talks about extortion, really strong language, about even criminality. And he’s doing it very calmly. Does he have to behave like that? Why doesn’t he show a little outrage at this criminality he’s accusing them of? Because they really are kidnapping the U.S. government. It’s only about 30 people on the wacko right. Why doesn’t he just go at these people?”

Matthews certainly would freak out over a conservative calling Obama an extortionist or a criminal. Bozell said:

BOZELL: We are talking about the president of the United States. What Chris Matthews is saying is that he can say words like extortion and that's OK. He can talk about criminality and that's OK. He can accuse them of chaos, and that's OK. He can make statements to affect and try to rattle the markets. That's OK. He can talk about them being extremists, he can talk about any language he wants to. But the problem is he's not being angry enough. The problem is here is that Chris Matthews doesn't understand fundamentally the difference between the president and a community organizer. That's who we want them to be.
