Media Go CRAZY Over Kavanaugh Confirmation

October 8th, 2018 2:44 PM

Liberal journalists lost their collective minds during the Brett Kavanaugh confirmation process as they filled their programs with dire predictions for the “millions of women” that will be “annihilated.” They also viciously attacked Kavanaugh’s reputation, as one USA Today writer sickeningly claimed “he should stay off basketball courts for now when kids are around.”

Those who rallied around Kavanaugh were also slandered. GOP Senator Lindsey Graham was labeled a “f—ing lunatic” for his impassioned defense of the incoming Supreme Court justice.

Lefty celebrities also went nuts. Late night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel joked that Kavanaugh should have a private part of his “cut” off and actress Molly Ringwald condemned the GOP as the “Rape Party.”

The following are the most recent examples of liberal journalists and celebrities going crazy over the Kavanaugh confirmation. For the media’s earlier attacks on Kavanaugh please click here

Women “Shrieking Out In Agony” Over Being Taken “Back to the ’50s”

“This is a country that was founded, to be blunt, on the idea that being a free white landed male gave you super citizenship, that you were more a citizen than anyone else. Mitch McConnell has decided that order means that people like Mitch McConnell, men like him rule....He is restoring order as he and people like him understand it. And they will impose it on the people like those people who are protesting. Women who are shrieking out in agony, saying, ‘You cannot impose this on us, you can’t send us back to the ’50s.’ But Mitch McConnell says, ‘Yes I can, I can impose order on you.’”
AM Joy host Joy Reid during MSNBC’s live coverage Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation, October 6.

Dan Rather Urges “Revenge” After “Devastating Loss” for Women

“For most women and many men it’s [Kavanaugh confirmation] a bitter, devastating loss. Which makes it all the sweeter for the old bulls, and for the forces of power, privilege and money everywhere. A sense that the nation’s climate of justice has taken another turn toward dark clouds rises.”
— Former CBS Evening News anchor Dan Rather in an October 5 Facebook post.

“March forward, without fear, and the winds of justice at your back. Feel the ranks swell of those who will not cower in the face of money, power and privilege. A favorite saying reminds us that revenge is best served at the ballot box.”
— October 5 tweet by former CBS Evening News anchor Dan Rather.

Only Courageous If You Buck Your Party to Vote Against Kavanaugh

“You are rare for many reasons, but one of the reasons is you are a pro-choice Republican. Many of your opponents are going to say, ‘She’s pro-choice, she’s pro-women’s rights, and she just sent a man accused of sexual assault to the Supreme Court of the United States.’...There are many who believe that Judge Kavanaugh will be the vote that results in abortion becoming illegal in the United States. And I wonder if you’re concerned about that?”
— Correspondent Scott Pelley’s questions to Republican Senator Susan Collins on 60 Minutes, October 7

“It was asked repeatedly late today [on social media] whether or not it was time for the news media to cease the heart stopping coverage of Susan Collins as some sort of maverick, moderate, independent Senator after the role she played today as the closer, a strict adherent of [Mitch] McConnell rule in Senate. Folks are saying there’s still time to switch the nameplate on the Profile in Courage Award from Flake to Murkowski. There have been suggestions that Flake be nominated instead for best supporting actor. Chuck Schumer will have to answer for why, as Democratic leader, he couldn’t deliver all the Democratic votes. McConnell lost one, too. And speaking of Joe Manchin, a lot of folks were asking if he needs to pick one political party.”
— Host Brian Williams on The 11th Hour with Brian Williams, October 5.

“Whither Susan Collins...whither the legitimacy of the Supreme Court...whither the future of this nation. Will we see a profile in courage?”
— October 5 tweet from former CBS Evening News anchor Dan Rather.

“He [Republican Senator Jeff Flake] is a conservative to the core. Also, trying to bring humanity back to the Senate in the final months of his time. And yet, he ended up being a yes.”
— NBC News correspondent Kelly O’Donnell on PBS’s Washington Week, October 5.

Republicans Will Annihilate “Millions of Women”

“Those millions of women felt that Dr. Ford spoke for them and spoke to them and stirred things in their memories in them that we, as white males, don’t really fully understand and appreciate and, you know, if you have a group of 11 white men sitting there on the Republican side, you have to ask: Do they get it? Do they understand? Are they of a generation that understands?”
— Senior political analyst David Gergen on CNN Newsroom with Poppy Harlow and Jim Sciutto, September 28.

“I can’t imagine the feeling of the millions and millions of women, and others who found Dr. Ford very, very credible. And if, as seems likely, Republicans are able to get Judge Kavanaugh onto the Supreme Court, they’re just going to feel annihilated inside.”
— Correspondent Terry Moran during ABC News’ live coverage of Brett Kavanaugh hearings, September 27.

How Dare He Get Angry At Those Who Accused Him of Sexual Assault

“I’d like to ask both of you what you made of Judge Kavanaugh’s very emotional response and what it may or may not say about his judicial temperament. Does this man belong on the Supreme Court?”
— Correspondent Scott Pelley question to Sens. Jeff Flake-R and Chris Coons-D as aired on CBS’s 60 Minutes, September 30.

“With him [Brett Kavanaugh] screaming and interrupting senators I could imagine him putting his hand over someone’s mouth.”
— September 27 tweet from Washington Post columnist Jennifer Rubin.

Lashing Out At “Lunatic” Lindsey For His Defense of Kavanaugh

“If I’m being cynical, I look at this and go maybe by turning it into a giant partisan food fight, and by Lindsey Graham acting like a fucking lunatic and all of that, maybe it’s enough and they [moderate Republican senators] fold to Donald Trump again.”
— Host John Heilemann on Showtime’s The Circus, September 30.

“First of all, I just want to comment on that appearance by those [Republican] senators today. They are so emotional, almost hysterical. I mean, I would make a joke about it, that they’re behaving as if it’s their time of the month, but this is very, very serious.”
Washington Post columnist Jennifer Rubin on MSNBC’s The Beat, October 4.

So Sick They Had to Delete the Tweet

“From @usatodaysports: ‘The U.S. Senate may yet confirm Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court, but he should stay off basketball courts for now when kids are around,’ writes @ByErikBrady.”
— September 28 tweet from USA Today’s official Twitter feed. The tweet accompanied a photo of Brett Kavanaugh with girls basketball team that he coached. The tweet was later deleted.

Defending Your Reputation = “White Entitlement”

“That Kavanaugh performance, that as a man, I was embarrassed for him. It was the ultimate display of white entitlement.”
— Advertising executive and MSNBC contributor Donny Deutsch on MSNBC’s Morning Joe, October 1.

FBI Needs to Investigate Rudeness?

“We were just talking to Frank Figliuzzi, a former FBI officer, a top-ranking officer, and he says that his sources who are very good sources in the Bureau, tell him that they are still pretty much handcuffed. That, yes, more witnesses, follow-up witnesses can be interviewed, but the issues are only the initial allegations of Dr. Ford of the sexual attack, not lying, not drinking, not whether he was rude or showed belligerence to senators such as yourself.”
— Host Andrea Mitchell to Democratic Senator Patrick Leahy as aired on MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell Reports, October 2.

Maybe We Underestimated How Racist and Sexist America Is?

“Can I make a suggestion? Maybe the base is much of the United States. Maybe this country is a lot more racist and sexist than we thought.”
— CNN chief legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin during discussion about Brett Kavanaugh on CNN’s The Situation Room, September 26.

“For many conservatives, especially white men who share Mr. Trump’s contempt for the left and his use of divisive remarks, the clash over Judge Kavanaugh’s confirmation has become a rallying cry against a liberal order that, they argue, is hostile to their individual rights, political power and social status.”
— Reporters Jeremy W. Peters and Susan Chira in September 30 New York Times article “Kavanaugh Borrows From Trump’s Playbook on White Male Anger.”

Trump’s Views on Women “Straight Out” of the 1950s or 1590s?

“Many women have been eyeing the Republican Party with growing unease since it was taken over by Donald Trump, whose retrograde views on gender are straight out of the 1950s – or maybe the 1590s. Confronted with serious and credible allegations against Judge Kavanaugh, Republican lawmakers could have seized the moment to reassure anxious women that they realized some issues transcend partisanship. Instead, they failed, quite spectacularly, to rise to the occasion – turning their furious defense of the nominee into an illuminating microcosm of the disregard and disrespect for women that have become hallmarks of Mr. Trump’s Republican Party.”
— From October 1 New York Times editorial “Women Are Watching”

Republican Men Ushering in Real Life Version of The Handmaid’s Tale...

“I keep saying this and people say it sounds incredibly dramatic but doesn’t this feel like the prequel to the Handmaid’s Tale? This is it. You ask yourself, how did it get this bad? It didn’t happen in the dark. It didn’t happen in a basement. It happened in plain sight for all of us to see. They will make everything legal. They will take away our rights. They’ll actually take away the importance of our vote so we better start using it before we don’t have it.”
— Actress America Ferrera on ABC’s The View, September 28

...and Apartheid for America

Co-host Whoopi Goldberg: “Whether you get it or you don’t get it, that [pointing to picture of Senate Judiciary committee] is trying to send a message – which isn’t good for the country. And that is some of ya’ll are second class citizens.”...
Co-host Joy Behar: “They just want to hold on to their power. They know that this country is getting darker. White Europeans are now 61 percent of the population....In 2045 it will be 49 percent...It’s almost like they’re worried that white people are going to lose all their power, so they don’t care if she’s lying or she’s not lying or he’s lying. They just want to hold onto their power. Pretty soon we’ll be like South Africa, apartheid, where 10 percent of the white people were running the country.”
— ABC’s The View, September 28.

Supremely Awful Tweets

“If ‘white male entitlement’ was in the dictionary, it could be illustrated by Brett Kavanaugh’s photograph. The thought of this closed mind on the Supreme Court for the rest of my life sickens me.”
— September 25 tweet by author Stephen King.

“Bill Cosby is set to serve 3 to 10 years in prison, but when he’s released he’s expected to be nominated to the Supreme Court.”
— September 25 tweet by comedian and former Netflix host Chelsea Handler, September 25.

“Alcoholism stunts your emotional growth so if you start drinking alcoholically as a teenager you stay a teenager emotionally until you deal with it. Explains a lot about Brett Kavanaugh. From his combative behavior yesterday to his unusual bond with teenage girls basketball teams.”
— September 28 tweet by comedian/actor Tom Arnold.

“It’s no longer the Republican Party to me. It’s the Rape Party.”
— October 4 tweet by actress Molly Ringwald.

Comparing Kavanaugh to Fictional Serial Killer

“I know it’s a slasher movie and it freaks you out. But it’s actually about something. The movie is about trauma. Because, what happened to Laurie Strode when she was 17 — it is fiction...But it happened to Laurie Strode in the movies and here we are having a conversation, a global conversation about trauma and what effect that kind of trauma has on a person. And you guys talked about it earlier about someone have it effect them earlier their whole life. Christine Ford said this affected her....So, what happened to Laurie Strode, 1978 on October 31st was carried forward and was carried forward with trauma....And the heroine of Halloween is a woman who suffered a trauma when she was 17 like Dr. Ford when she was 17. And it changed and shaped her life and now she is taking back the power which is what all of these brave women have done.”
— Actress Jamie Lee Curtis comparing Brett Kavanaugh to the fictional killer that stalked her in the Halloween movies, as aired on ABC’s The View, October 8.

Trump Building “Insanity Plea” For Himself

Sarah Silverman: “Trigger warning on this video for anybody out there who is human.”
Donald Trump: “How did you get home? ‘I don’t remember.’ Where is the place? ‘I don’t remember.’ How many years ago was it? ‘I don’t know, I don’t know.’ Upstairs, downstairs, where was it? ‘I don’t know. But I had one beer. That’s the only thing I remember.’”
Silverman: “Ha, ha, ha, ha. Fuck you! You know what? He’s not even worth it. He is a void. He is unwell. He’s building an incredible case for an insanity plea. So let me direct this to the one group of people who are actually going to make this decision. Senators please believe me when I say this is no longer a job interview. This is a line in the sand and you have to pick a side. And the side is no longer Republican or Democrat. Your vote is a statement and that statement is either ‘hell no this is not okay, this is not who we are,’ or it’s telling every woman, every girl, every boy, every person that what happens to women’s bodies does not matter.”
— Actress/comedian Sarah Silverman on Hulu’s I Love You, America, October 4.

Cut Kavanaugh’s What Off?

“I think there’s a compromise here and hear me out on this. So Kavanaugh gets confirmed to the Supreme Court. Okay. Well, in return we get to cut that pesky penis of his off in front of everyone.”
— Jimmy Kimmel on ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live, September 24.

“Entitled Monster” Kavanaugh Is a “F— You to Women”

“[Conservatives] don’t need to choose an unhinged partisan with multiple accusations of sexual misconduct hanging over him. So it feels like they’re doing this just to deliver a ‘Fuck you’ to Democrats and even more directly, a ‘Fuck you’ to women....There is still a chance that we can stop it. So please call your senators tomorrow and tell them you do not want to be looking at this for the next 30 years. Get off the bench! You’re not even confirmed yet! No, I don’t want a beer! I don’t want a beer, you big weirdo! Get off the bench! You entitled monster!”
— Host John Oliver on HBO’s Last Week Tonight, September 30.
