Nearly a half-hour into Saturday’s Democratic presidential debate on CBS, frequent MSNBC guest and Salon writer Joan Walsh blasted moderator John Dickerson for merely asking a legitimate question to the candidates about whether or not the United States (and by extension, the West) is at war with “radical Islam.”

While Hillary Clinton, Martin O’Malley, and Bernie Sanders blew off Dickerson’s assertion and refused to call out our enemy for what it is, here’s the original question Dickerson posed to Clinton:

Secretary Clinton, you mentioned radical Jihadists. Marco Rubio, also running for president, said that this attack — the attack in Paris showed it's attack in Paris showed that we are at war with radical Islam. Do you agree with that characterization radical Islam?

After Dickerson followed up with Clinton as ducked and dodged him, he faced similar situations with both O’Malley and Sanders. Taking to Twitter, Walsh complained that Dickerson was already “[d]isappointing” her with his conduct (i.e. doing his job):

Likewise, former Democratic Vermont Governor and MSNBC political analyst Howard Dean expressed the same sentiment about Dickerson being “disappointing” and lamented that there were “[t]oo many [g]otcha questions”
