Appearing on MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell Reports Thursday afternoon, nervous Hardball host Chris Matthews lectured Democrats to “sober up” about the 2020 presidential race and not just have “a lot of fun” following far-left “flavor-of-the-month” candidates. He said all of this in the context of applauding Joe Biden officially launching his campaign, calling it “thrilling.”
During his closing argument Wednesday, CNN host Chris Cuomo slammed President Trump and Republican Congressman Steve King for using religion as “both shield and sword,” and accused the former of “misusing Christianity.” Cuomo complained that “religion is being used to pander and divide by men who have no business representing themselves as arbiters of the same.” Strangely, Cuomo did not include South Bend, Indiana mayor and 2020 presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg in his monologue directed at politicians who use religion to “pander and divide.”
Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski are accusing President Trump and Attorney General William Barr of unintentionally endangering the lives of Trump opponents, including Scarborough himself. On today's Morning Joe, Scarborough and Brzezinski expressed outrage that, by failing to charge Coast Guardsman Christopher Hasson with terrorism, they made him eligible for release on bail on lesser charges. Said Scarborough: "Barr will not charge this terrorist with acts of terrorism or a plot to actually kill people who run America's government, I guess because they don't support Donald Trump . . . I guess Barr doesn't think you're a terrorist if you try to kill people that don't support Donald Trump."
Ideological bias runs rampant in the search to regulate the internet. In the U.K., on the heels of the Home Secretary’s new proposals for regulating the internet, the Oxford Internet Institute announced a new commission to “safeguard democracy” from “misinformation, ‘fake news,’ and micro-targeting.” Last year, "junk news" sites included us -- NewsBusters, CNSNews.com and MRCTV.
The Resistance is still having a really hard time accepting the fact that President Trump won the 2016 presidential election fair and square. Now that the Mueller report has been released and concluded that there was no collusion between the Russians and Trump’s campaign, a different narrative has to emerge.
CBS All-Access has officially hit a low point in The Twilight Zone reboot. Yes, this is somehow worse than the racist cop narrative two episodes ago. The previously iconic sci-fi series has now been reduced to a forty-minute jab against Donald Trump.
NewsBusters has kept track of the liberal media’s lack of or minimal coverage of many of the scandals plaguing Democratic politicians, but ABC and NBC shockingly reported on the mayor of Baltimore getting raided by the FBI and the IRS on Thursday. Meanwhile, CBS Evening News omitted the story entirely from its broadcast.
The White House held a kind of Fake News briefing on Thursday for the children of White House correspondents and White House employees on Take Your Daughters and Sons to Work Day. That sounds cool for the kids, but Washington Post media blogger Erik Wemple used the occasion to trash Sarah Sanders & Co., and their failure to host press briefings in 2019.
Massachusetts Judge Shelly Joseph was federally charged with obstruction of justice on Thursday for allegedly helping an illegal immigrant evade capture by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer. It’s not the person liberals hoped would get charged with obstruction, so that might partially explain why CBS Evening News and NBC Nightly News avoided covering the topic that evening.
In what seems like a totally counter-intuitive turn of events, Major League Baseball recently fined an African-American player for calling a white rival a "n-----." Hyper-sensitive SB Nation staff writer Harry Lyles Jr. is irate about it and, acting more like a spokesman for the NAACP than an objective journalist, says professional sports leagues have no right to claim authority on a black person’s ownership of the N-word.
With a video trying to tie President Trump to white supremacists, former Vice President Joe Biden threw his hat into the 2020 ring Thursday. That video won him the praise of the liberal media as both CBS and NBC kicked off their evening news broadcasts with his announcement. Each of the Big Three networks boasted about the video while downplaying his inappropriate touching scandals.
Though it wasn’t quite to the same level of obsession that we saw with Hillary Clinton, her Chipotle stop, and her Scooby Doo van, the liberal media were still enthralled Thursday with former Vice President Joe Biden finally launching his 2020 presidential bid. And CNN was there providing more than enough moments with a few coming in a segment on CNN Newsroom gushing about his aviators, his supposed authenticity, and his hire of their CNN colleague Symone Sanders.
Surprisingly, CNN journalists on Thursday did what the networks have largely not been interested in: They looked at Joe Biden’s poor performance in presidential campaigns and his plagiarism problems. CNN Politics Reporter Chris Cillizza dove into the 1988 scandal in which Biden appeared to directly lift from a British Labour politician named Neil Kinnock. Cillizza noted that the Democrat didn’t even make it into calendar year 1988 before being forced to drop out. He explained, “[Biden] gives a speech that is very similar to a speech that a British Labour politician named Neal Kinnock and it leads to his demise.”
It looks like Rolling Stone's Matt Taibbi, one of the few liberal journalists who has been skeptical about the now-discredited Trump-Russia collusion conspiracy theory over the years, is about to lose even more friends over his harsh critique of the press in light of the Mueller Report findings. Basically he stated on Tuesday that "The Press Will Learn Nothing From the Russiagate Fiasco."
There’s often a clear anti-capitalist bent to environmental alarm, as Guardian columnist George Monbiot proved again April 25.
“Our choice comes down to this. Do we stop life to allow capitalism to continue, or stop capitalism to allow life to continue?” Monbiot asked. His anti-capitalist rant argued that capitalism was “incompatible with the survival of life on Earth.”
