You know things must be getting really bad when the networks set aside their usual blend of sensationalism and anti-Trump bias in favor of responsible journalism that seeks to calm and inform. Well, that’s what NBC Nightly News did on Monday in a report designed to ease the public’s fear about seeing countless grocery store shelves across the country left bare as throngs of people scrambled for supplies. It was also a great message about the wonders of capitalism.
Monday’s press conference on the continued spread of the coronavirus crisis saw President Trump strike a tone of seriousness that few presidents had needed to do. While the media had been suggesting Trump was only concerned about stock market numbers, he admitted that the country might be headed into a recession. Despite the President’s new warnings to the American people about the crisis, ABC’s World News Tonight was still intent on scoring cheap political points.
New on March 16: New York Times columnist David Brooks saw, in the current coronavirus pandemic, an opportunity to advocate for the value of government and to push an idea at the center of Andrew Yang’s disbanded campaign. “The swamp looks pretty valuable right now,” Brooks argued on NBC’s Meet the Press, “you want an establishment that can do stuff” and so “the federal government should be sending $1,000 checks to everybody.”
It’s well-established that CNN has refused to act as a serious news organization. So, it came as no surprise when a Media Research Center study found that CNN featured Dr. Leana Wen 15 times from March 2 to 16 for a total of 69 minutes and 25 seconds to discuss the coronavirus. However, there were zero seconds verbally acknowledging her past as Planned Parenthood’s former president.
Twitter allegedly censored at least one journalist for theorizing on the COVID-19 virus’s origins, but Chinese officials appear to be an exception when pointing a finger at America. Spokesperson & Deputy Director General, Information Department, Foreign Ministry of China Lijian Zhao has been blasted by both sides for spreading Chinese propaganda on Twitter. Zhao tweeted a piece headlined “COVID-19: Further Evidence that the Virus Originated in the US” at 9:02 p.m. on March 12. Later that day he speculated, “It might be US army who brought the epidemic to Wuhan.”
High Fidelity star Zoey Kravitz seems to have a pretty interesting sense of humor regarding the Coronavirus pandemic. The actress posted a joke photo of the virus to her Instagram account which had been altered to appear like it was made of red “MAGA” caps.
On her 2:00 p.m. ET hour show on Monday, MSNBC anchor Katy Tur denounced President Trump for shaking hands and touching the microphone during a coronavirus press conference on Friday. The scolding came despite the fact that National Institutes of Health director Dr. Anthony Fauci rejected the notion that those minor interactions endangered anyone’s health.
Never let a crisis go to waste. That’s clearly a motto embraced by MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell. As the nation fights to deal with the Coronavirus pandemic sweeping the globe, O’Donnell on Sunday lectured that more will die if ObamaCare is fully repealed. After the Democratic debate ended, the Last Word host talked to former Obama administration official, Dr. Kavita Patel. She attacked, “Donald Trump has dismantled the Affordable Care Act.”
When it comes to COVID-19 infections, Oklahoma is way down the list with just eight. But when Utah visited Oklahoma City recently for an NBA game, the game was cancelled and the NBA season suspended because the Jazz center Rudy Gobert had contracted the coronavirus. That led to the testing of 58 Utah players and employees ― and cries of wealth privilege" by the SB Nation sports blog.
When you see leftist propaganda touting that a contagious disease is reducing carbon emissions published in a top university’s tech magazine, one wonders why we continue to subsidize these institutions with government grants. The Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Technology Review, published a climate change piece headlined “Why the coronavirus outbreak is terrible news for climate change.”
On Saturday, President Trump declared Sunday, March 15, a "National Day of Prayer for All Americans Affected by the Coronavirus Pandemic and for our National Response Efforts." How did the press cover it? Barely, accept for Fox News. MSNBC's Joy Reid made fun of it.
No way! No one is over hyping this coronavirus, much less weaponizing the hysteria for political purposes. Famous Hollywood people may be tweeting that the solution to coronavirus is removing President trump from office, but hey, that’s just being pragmatic and somehow in line with proper disease prevention … right?
CNN on Sunday continued the network’s efforts to politicize the coronavirus and blame Donald Trump. Fareed Zakaria trashed the President for “emulating” the “propaganda” of North Korea. Opening his Fareed Zakaria GPS show, the anchor hammered, “This crisis seems to have been designed to bring out the worst of Trump. The President doesn't like or trust experts, often explaining that he knows more than they do. He has bluffed and fibbed his way through much of his life.”
While it’s the media’s job to inform the public with facts during a pandemic, liberals in the media have instead chosen to taken advantage of the situation by pushing a big government agenda down everyone’s throats during their coronavirus coverage. Sunday, MSNBC let New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio fearmonger over why we need nationalized everything to combat the virus’s spread. Monday on ABC’s Good Morning America, the news network let New York Governor Andrew Cuomo push forward the same argument.
As COVID-19 sweeps across the country, CNN's Chris Cuomo is certain that Donald Trump is to blame for the surge in panic buying as he declared in a sometimes misleading and other times mocking address to viewers Friday evening. The CNN host even pinned the scarcity in toilet paper on the President: “When you know things are serious, and Trump is feeding you a lot of BS, what do you do? You go for the TP.”
