During Thursday’s special reports on ABC and NBC covering the House Intelligence Committee hearing with Acting Director of National Intelligence Joseph Maguire, journalists rushed to the defense of the anonymous whistleblower accusing President Trump of wrongdoing in a phone call with the president of Ukraine. Any of the serious questions about the unknown official’s credibility were dismissed and denounced.
Estrella TV is normally known for its over-the-top, virulent coverage of all things pertaining to President Donald Trump. But as Impeachment Fever swaps the nation’s domestic Spanish-language media, Estrella has decided to asset some editorial independence.
It's always amusing when reporters insist that they're not "stenographers to power," but when you look at their interviews with Democrats, they often come across as stenographers -- extremely accomodating, and not at all challenging. Take for example, Sen. Chris Murphy of Connecticut in his interviews on the Ukrainian kerfuffle on Wednesday. None of his three national TV interviews seriously raised the idea that he or other Democratic senators pressed Ukraine in a similar way to President Trump to cooperate with their domestic political goals.
Todd Phillips, director of the upcoming Joker film starring Joaquin Phoenix, is pushing back against critics and protestors who claim that his R-rated comic book adaptation may inspire violence. Both he and Warner Brothers Studios insist that neither the fictional character, “nor the film, is an endorsement of real-world violence of any kind,” with the director calling out the critics as being part of the “far left” outrage culture.
The finger-and-thumb OK sign, once an international gesture of approval, has been declared to be a racist gesture by the Anti-Defamation League. As CNN wrote in its September 26 coverage, “The ADL added that symbol along with several others on Thursday to its long-standing database of slogans and symbols used by extremists.” While the ADL has said that not everybody necessarily intends it to be a signal to fellow racists, the sign has been co-opted by the alt-right.
Joe Biden took another slap at the press on Wednesday night, falsely stating that “no legitimate journalist” gives any credibility to claims that, as vice president, he improperly intervened on behalf of son Hunter Biden. After Jimmy Kimmel wondered about the “gossip element” of the Ukraine story, Biden attacked: “Look, you know, when you step back from it, this is not about me and my family. There's not one single solitary legitimate journalist in the world given any credibility to this.”
As is often the case, ABC misled its audience by tweeting a deceptive headline and story, only to issue a correction after the damage was done. To make matters worse, the network doubled down on their spurious story by giving it airtime on Good Morning America, Thursday morning in two separate segments.

Wow! The MSNBC host of Deadline: White House, Nicolle Wallace, declared President Trump to be a liar on Wednesday (how original) and used that as an excuse to cut away from the televised press conference almost 24 hours after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi declared the House's formal attempt to impeach the President. Perhaps Trump's truth telling about Joe and Hunter Biden was too much for her to tolerate. In any event, it was a stunning act of anti-journalism.
The new season of South Park got back to its libertarian roots in ways many conservatives might not appreciate. One side plot of Wednesday night's episode "Mexican Joker" dealt with marijuana and regulation reform, but the main storyline was based around illegal immigrant children being placed in detention centers.
