Newt Gingrich hasn’t been an elected official in more than fifteen years, but according to Mother Jones blogger Kevin Drum, Gingrich’s vitriolic approach to politics during his years in the House of Representatives remains influential via Fox News. (Even though Gingrich stars on CNN.)

Piggybacking on an Andrew Sullivan blog post in which Sullivan alleged that watching Fox News was “like slipping into an alternative universe” where “hysteria is the constant norm,” Drum wrote on Thursday that Gingrich “brought conservative politics to a truly new, truly unprecedented level of toxic rancor,” and that Fox News is now “the ongoing, institutional expression of Gingrichism.”

After Robert Gates criticized the White House in his new book "Duty," members of CNN's liberal panel spent most of their time defending Hillary Clinton and President Obama against the charges, on Tuesday's AC 360 Later.

"I'm a little gobsmacked by it. It's not what I would expect from Bob Gates," lefty blogger Andrew Sullivan lamented. Regarding Gates' criticism of Biden, he asked "why the gratuitous insults? It's just not in his character or personality."

Liberals have been predictably up in arms over anti-gay comments by Duck Dynasty's Phil Robertson and thrilled about his termination.

Rather shockingly you can't count Andrew Sullivan amongst them, for he took to his Daily Dish blog Thursday to proclaim, "I’m befuddled":

You can tell things are really going poorly for President Obama: some of his biggest fans in the media members are going nuts.

Take Andrew Sullivan who on Friday actually called Fox News "one of the most powerful forces against Christianity in our culture."

Left-wing actor Alec Baldwin just can't stay out of trouble. The most recent example of that is his calling a photographer who was following him and his family “a c**ksucking fag." That incident caused MSNBC to suspend his Friday evening Up Late interview program for at least two weeks and there are reports that his show may be canceled entirely.

Baldwin's angry behavior was the topic for discussion on Monday night's edition of the Cable News Channel's AC 360 Later program, when gay panelist Andrew Sullivan accused the actor of being a “homophobic bigot” and unexpectedly claimed: “If a conservative said that, they would be finished.”

How's this for intellectual diversity? The panel on Monday's AC360 Later included three NYC liberals and was unanimous in support of same-sex marriage. The topic was the spat between Liz and Mary Cheney.

"I don't think you can actually respect somebody to whom you want to deny the most basic rights," declared The Daily Beast's Peter Beinart, who also teaches journalism at the City University of New York.

As NewsBusters previously reported, MSNBC's Alec Baldwin went on another homophobic rant Thursday.

This led Andrew Sullivan to take on the hypocrisy of the liberal media which will likely once again ignore Baldwin's behavior:

Monday night's AC360 Later welcomed gun control advocate Mark Kelly, who pushed for stronger gun laws in front of a sympathetic panel. The segment aired hours after a deadly Nevada school shooting.

Host Anderson Cooper teed up Kelly by asking, "Mark, again, another shooting. When you see this, is actual change possible? Is – have you been able to see any results from the work you and your wife have been doing so far?" Kelly is the husband of former Democratic congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords.

I asked my Facebook and Twitter followers Tuesday how liberal media members would save disgraced New York City mayoral candidate Anthony Weiner so he wouldn't have to drop out of the race.

Andrew Sullivan certainly did his part in a Wednesday piece titled "Breaking: Man Gets Off Online" wherein he actually wrote, "In this new Internet Age someone has to be the person who makes sexting not an excludable characteristic for public office."

Talk about your America-hating media members.

On the final episode of the syndicated Chris Matthews Show Sunday, Andrew Sullivan actually said that - to laughter from many in the studio - “with any luck,” America won’t be a superpower in 20 years (video follows with transcript and commentary):

Andrew Sullivan had a very interesting discussion with CNN's Fareed Zakaria Sunday about last week's Supreme Court decisions involving same-sex marriage.

In light of the media's almost universal support for the rulings and the way opponents have been routinely eviscerated, the most compelling thing Sullivan said was, "I'm very concerned, actually, that we may become intolerant of people who believe homosexuality is still sinful" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

As NewsBusters previously reported, CNN's Anderson Cooper commented about Alec Baldwin's Thursday Twitter meltdown - which included a homophobic attack on a British reporter - asking why the actor gets a pass when he uses gay slurs.

Andrew Sullivan joined this discussion Friday writing, "He’s a pro-gay liberal, so he may get a pass for this. He shouldn’t":
