Day After San Bernardino Massacre, Barbara Boxer Says 'We've Proven' Gun Control Works in California

Democratic U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer of California today cited how her home state's "important gun safety laws" demonstrate that “Sensible gun laws work, we’ve proven it in California, and we're not going to give up." She apparently means that she and others who won't respect the Second Amendment are "not going to give up" on passing or imposing similar legislation or mandates nationally.

Ms. Boxer apparently failed to notice that San Bernardino, the site of yesterday's massacre of 14 at a San Bernardino County holiday party — with 21 others injured, many critically — is in her home state. A Republican or conservative making a similar observation almost immediateely after an event demonstrating an obviously contradictory point as Boxer did would be an object of relentless establishment press criticism and ridicule. But Boxer is a gun-grabbing leftist, so she'll likely get a near-complete pass. Video follows the jump.

La Raza Head Stands By 2008 Attack on Lou Dobbs's 'Hate Speech'

Janet Murguia, president of the liberal National Council for La Raza, took credit for Lou Dobbs's departure from CNN during a Monday interview on C-SPAN's Q&A program, and repeated a six-year-old charge that the host directed "hate speech" against Hispanics and immigrants. Murguia claimed that Dobbs forwarded a "negative mindset – but more than anything else, a pejorative mindset" about Latinos using "terms that the ADL had said were hate speech terms."

On Sunday, Washington Post Fact Checker Glenn Kessler sat down with CSPAN’s Brian Lamb for a Q&A about the year’s worst political lies. While much of the hour-long interview focused on numerous statements made by Democrats and Republicans throughout 2014, Kessler claimed that both Republicans and Democrats have bought into the "myth of the liberal media." The Post fact checker argued that “Democrats tend to get a little more upset because I think they have bought into the myth of the liberal media, and they kind think that the media is on their side whereas Republicans, they firmly believe in the myth of the liberal media.” 

Ann Compton on Obama: He Launches 'Profanity-Laced' Tirades Against Press

According to retired ABC News journalist Ann Compton, Barack Obama has launched into "profanity-laced" tirades against the press in off-the-record meetings with reporters. In a C-SPAN interview, Compton also derided the President for leading "the most opaque" administration of "any I have covered."

Emmy Award-winning investigative reporter Sharyl Attkisson -- who recently left CBS News and accused the outlet of a reticence to criticize the Obama administration -- appeared on C-SPAN's Q&A Sunday evening to discuss her forthcoming book Stonewalled: One Reporter's Fight for Truth in Obama's Washington.

Attkisson, who recently joined the Heritage Foundation's Daily Signal website as a senior independent contributor, explained that between an opaque Obama administration and timid "powers that be" in corporate liberal media outlets, journalists like her interested in doggedly pursuing the truth have a rougher go at things than before.

Soon-to-be White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest took to the podium of the James S. Brady Press Briefing Room for his last outing as deputy press secretary. He will move into the White House Press Secretary role next week as Jay Carney officially vacates the job.

If we learned anything from his “test run” today, it’s that Earnest has learned the art of White House spin from his boss. When questioned about the IRS e-mail scandal, Earnest repeatedly touted “Republican conspiracy theories” as the ruling force behind any and all questions involving the scandal.

Fox's Bret Baier: One Cable Network Can't Hopelessly Divide the Country

Fox News host Bret Baier appeared on C-SPAN’s June 1 Q&A with Brian Lamb to promote his new book Special Heart: A Journey of Faith, Hope, Courage, and Love. Among the many topics discussed during the interview was the nation's political divide and Lamb wanted to know what Baier thought of the people who blamed the divide on Fox News.

Baier noted that is very worthwhile to point out that D.C. is more divided now than it ever has been. But Lamb wanted to know why such a divide exists. Baier pointed out that there really is no way to pinpoint it to one issue. That's when the C-SPAN founder took the opportunity to bring up the people who blame Fox News by saying, “I’m sure you’ve heard people blame Fox News.”

HuffPost’s Bendery Parrots Obama Talking Points on Benghazi, Claims American Public Not 'Interested' in Scandal

Appearing on Sunday’s edition of C-SPAN’s Washington Journal program, Huffington Post correspondent Jennifer Bendery dismissed the Benghazi scandal, telling host John McArdle that “there’s really not a whole lot of ‘there’ there” when it comes to the September 2012 attacks.

It’s offensive enough that Bendery abandoned any sense of objective journalism in her interview with McArdle. It’s even worse that she repeated nearly verbatim a phrase used by President Obama in his press conference last Monday (transcript of the May 13 press conference via The Wall Street Journal):

On the May 5, 2013, edition of C-SPAN 2’s “In Depth,” British journalist Melanie Phillips spoke candidly of her new autobiography “Guardian Angel: My Story, My Britain” and pointed out the flaws in liberal group think.

Phillips spent 20 years working at Britain’s left-wing The Guardian where she finally realized that many journalists were out of touch. She explained how journalists see the conclusion first, and then distort evidence and facts to prove their point. “There are quite a number of people who … start with the conclusion and say let’s make the facts fit the conclusion.”

His health advice? “Don’t spend much time watching CNBC” because it is “bad for your financial and intellectual health.”

MRC director of media analysis Tim Graham appeared on C-SPAN's Washington Journal on Saturday morning to discuss the letter  MRC president Brent Bozell and more than 20 other conservative leaders and media personalities wrote to executives of ABC News, CBS News, CNN and NBC News.

"I would simply say we have a news media that doesn't hold the Obama Administration accountable. It's trying to destroy the Mitt Romney presidential campaign," Graham said. "That is not what ‘objective’ news media does." (See video and transcript below, MP3 audio available here).

WaPo's Woodward Hawks New Book on CSPAN; Predictably Laments Compromise Dead in Washington

Liberal Washington Post associate editor Bob Woodward appeared on the September 17 C-SPAN program Washington Journal to hawk his new book The Price of Politics.

In the process, Woodward promoted the same stale narrative that compromise is dead in Washington mostly because of those rascally, conservative Republicans, but sought to import a fair measure of melodrama to the stalemate in Washington using the words of a Biden aide to describe the summer's debt ceiling crisis as “an economic Cuban Missile Crisis."
