MSNBC's Al Sharpton Calls for DOJ to Take Over Police Across America

Just when you think you've heard it all from the Rev. Al Sharpton, who combines his liberal activism with hosting the weekday PoliticsNation program afternoons on the MSNBC cable channel, he comes up with another absurd demand that leaves people of all races shaking their heads in disbelief.

His latest outrageous comment came on Thursday, when Sharpton met with Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, Baltimore's Democratic mayor, and other local officials to address the issues behind the riots and looting that took place after 25-year-old Freddie Gray died while in police custody for allegedly possessing a switchblade on April 12.

Every December, the people at TIME magazine choose the “Person of the Year,” who is described as “the person or persons who most affected the news and our lives, for good or ill, and embodied what was important about the year.”

Two of the candidates for the 2014 honor were: the Ferguson, Missouri, protesters, “who took to the streets ... following the fatal shooting of an unarmed black 18-year-old by a white police officer;” and the Ebola caregivers, who are still fighting the biggest outbreak of the disease in history, which has so far claimed the lives of nearly 7,000 people in West Africa.

The media's coverage of the chaos that resulted after police officer Darren Wilson was not indicted for any crimes after shooting black 18-year-old Michael Brown in Ferguson, Mo., last August has drawn a tremendous demand for reporters and journalists to do a better job in such situations.

That call for people in the mainstream media to be more “fair and balanced” in their work led Dylan Byers to tweet: “How long til the 'blame the media' thing stops?” If the media reporter for the Politico website was looking for sympathy, he was sorely disappointed.
