In statement released on Tuesday, the executive director of the Committee to Protect Journalists, Joel Simon, issued this warning against the Obama Justice Department investigating Fox News reporter James Rosen: "U.S. government efforts to prosecute leakers by obtaining information from journalists has a chilling effect domestically and sends a terrible message to journalists around the world who are fighting to resist government intrusion."

The statement comes even as ABC and CBS News have failed to make any mention of the controversy, while NBC has only provided a little over a minute of coverage.

On Monday's Special Report, Fox News senior political analyst and veteran journalist Brit Hume condemned the Justice Department for having "gone where federal prosecutors have rarely if ever gone before" by going after Rosen.

The CPJ also sent a letter to Attorney General Eric Holder on Tuesday protesting the seizure of Associated Press phone records during a separate leak investigation.
