The media are starting a full-court press to assist disgraced former Congressman Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.) in becoming mayor of New York City if he decides to run.

Jonathan Karl tried to do exactly that on ABC's This Week Sunday, and was surprisingly snubbed by Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) who three times refused to comment on the issue (video follows with transcript and commentary):

JONATHAN KARL, SUBSTITUTE HOST: Senator Schumer, before we go, need to ask you about somebody who -- some have called your former protege, Anthony Weiner, obviously left Congress in disgrace, now is considering a run for mayor. I don't expect you to make any endorsements in the mayor's race, but tell me, does Anthony Weiner deserve a second chance?

SENATOR CHUCK SCHUMER (D-NEW YORK): Look, I'm not going to comment on that. How did I know you'd ask that question, Jonathan?

KARL: You're not going to comment at all? Do you think he...

SCHUMER: Nope.

KARL: Not even whether he deserves a second chance?

SCHUMER: No comment.

KARL: No comment at all? That is rare. We have Senator Schumer with a no comment. Thank you very much, Senator. Appreciate it. Thank you for coming on This Week. Senator Sessions.

SCHUMER: Time and season for everything, Jonathan.

Interesting that Schumer refused to comment.

Less surprising was Karl asking this question for he and his colleagues are going to do everything in their power to assist Weiner in rehabilitating his image.

This wouldn't be offensive if they did they same for previously disgraced Republicans.

As you know, in the rare instances when this happens, it's after a Republican has passed away.
