July 9, 2008 - 05:30 ET by motherbeltI think that "trying to get a cool shot" would be the rationalization that they use, to convince themselves and others that there's nothing more to it.

maybe they are real halos?
July 9, 2008 - 16:14 ET by TruthMongermaybe they are real halos? there are just way, way, way too many to be a massive and deliberately coordinated effort...!!
it would have to be a giant MSM/DNC conspiracy to desperately rig the election any way possible to get their totally unqualified candidated elected...
i mean how sad, ridiculous and pathetic would that make the Dems.....?!?!?
Don't worry folks...

July 9, 2008 - 06:51 ET by MidAmericaI believe a lot of their motivation is to mock Christianity and to watch the 'suckers' fall for it. I wonder why, with obama's professed deep religious faith, he doesn't tell them to knock it off. He should be offended.

July 9, 2008 - 07:18 ET by motherbeltI commented pretty much the same thing in another thread. He hasn't done a single thing to discourage it.
Which leads me to believe: he likes it.

July 9, 2008 - 08:24 ET by Hunter12Sicko, Are you referring to the percentage of people who think the media does anything subconsciously when it comes to Obama? I'm surprised we aren't seeing his campaign buttons on lapels during broadcasts. I find it laughable that these self-styled sophisticates are being taken in by the routine.

July 9, 2008 - 10:19 ET by SickofLibsHunter - yeah, I was referring to the subconscious vote, 6%, plus the coincidence vote, 1%.
The constant onslaught of skewed chyron captions vs. a small BHO campaign button on a talking head's lapel is like a BB gun vs a nuclear warhead.
Not since Hitler has graphic design/signage (both MSM's and BHO's) been employed against the ignorant masses this diabolically.
And this surprises us, why?
July 9, 2008 - 09:15 ET by bradbenj5952We have a country, nay, a world raised on this kind of silliness. Paint an image with a halo or aura around someone, take a picture and doctor it with a halo or aura around the subject, and the ignorant are suckered in every time. The same thing works for all kinds of images. For example, take any graven image of a Greek "god", call it by a Biblical name, and voila, the masses are bowing before it and kissing its toes. This is not a new thing.

Hardly. If/when BHO makes it to the White House, the media will not only continue but step up kissing his ass for the next 4-8 years. You think it's nauseating now? Just wait. His failures (and there will be too many to count) will either be spun, or blamed on Repubs. Or both.
BHO is a dangerous mixture of the policies of Carter, with the slickness and pathological lying of the Clintons.
The only way the media would turn on him is if he lost the election; then they'd throw him under the bus -- with his gramma and Jerry Wright.

When will they nail Hussein to a cross? As soon as they figure out he's not black, not a christian and does not have the interest of democrats (but does have Islam) at heart.
I guess they will worship like Islamist, bow to a rock and kill those who reconize what idiots they are.

July 9, 2008 - 11:31 ET by HermanoI concur. A photographer, in general, gets paid when a photo is used. Something like this makes it more likely an editor would buy it.

July 9, 2008 - 14:40 ET by abeautifulpersonit isn't about absolutes.
whether consciously or unconsciously, there are photographers who want to make obama look good. and why not, he IS going to be the next president.
obama has the momentum compared to the great grandfather of the man-from-Glad. that's what MANY people want and they're getting it.
but i've seen a lot of these so-called 'halo' shots. most of them are simply backlit.
so rather than think is as either or, its more like...
50% about the cool shot
40% about making the next president look good (which looks good for any photographer's portfolio).
10% coincidence (aka conservative hysterical rage over backlit photos)
No accident, no coincidence
July 9, 2008 - 14:50 ET by nkviking75One or two of these photos could be accidental. But to get as many as we've had, photogs have to be looking for opportunities to get their "halo" shot.
I'd love to see a compilation of these photos to drive the point home.

July 9, 2008 - 18:48 ET by weirdoneI am always suspicious of anyone who depicts himself, or allows himself to be depicted in this manner. Jim Jones comes to mind. But then, ever since first looking into Barak Obama many months ago, I have been unable to decide who he most resembles, Elmer Gantry or the Flim Flam Man. I am leaning toward the latter.

Just like their approach to McCain is to try and get a photo of him in a sweaty, unflattering pose.
