On Tuesday, ABC’s World News Tonight filed its lone 2016 election report on GOP presidential candidate Dr. Ben Carson in attempt to slam him for his response to a question on FNC’s Fox & Friends about how he’d deal with facing a mass shooter and his desire to arm trained schoolteachers to protect their students. With the on-screen headline entitled “Carson controversy,” anchor David Muir hyped that there was a “new headline tonight involving Dr. Ben Carson and what he said about guns.”

Continuing to show viewers that the routine mocking of conservatives wouldn’t end with Jon Stewart’s departure, new Daily Show host Trevor Noah savaged the pro-life movement on Monday night and lamented that they aren’t devout advocates for gun control which Noah argued is “an issue where the facts” would be “actually on their side.”

The “big three” of ABC, CBS, and NBC pulled out all the stops on Monday night to carry water for 2016 Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, proclaiming that she’s “on fire” with “new wind in her sails” as she “unveil[ed] a tough new stance on gun control” and came “out swinging today at the Benghazi Committee.”

During a discussion on the Thursday edition of MSNBC’s The Last Word, New York Times columnist Nicholas Kristof briefly admitted that gun control would not have stopped the shooter who shot dead two local news reporters in Roanoke, Virginia on Wednesday, but continued to nonetheless argue that more gun restrictions are needed. He let slip that “you know, it may well be that no measure could have prevented the killer in this case from actually acquiring that gun.”

While it may have been surprising that all three broadcast networks covered on Monday evening the deadly violence in Chicago over the Fourth of July weekend, what wasn’t surprising was that they looked to blame guns for the violence and advanced the cause of more gun control (as opposed to gang violence or the need for better policing).

On Tuesday, none of the major English or Spanish-language networks devoted any news coverage during their evening newscasts to the decision by the Obama administration to not follow through with a proposed ban on ammunition that is often used in AR-15s. The move by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) comes after an overwhelming response from gun owners, gun rights advocates, and members of Congress expressing opposition to the ban. FNC's Special Report did mention it during its Tuesday show.

On Monday night’s NBC Nightly News, the program took a look at how Utah is now allowing teachers to obtain concealed carry permits to have firearms in their schools after training and continually passing background checks. As the media has done countless times, they found a way to turn it into coming across as a bad thing.
NBC News senior legal and investigative correspondent Cynthia McFadden interviewed special education teacher Casey Hanson and seemed intrigued by her decision to purchase a pistol “to defend my students” after being shaken by the tragic events at Sandy Hook Elementary in December 2012.
Matthews on Arizona Gun Range Tragedy: ‘This Is Where You Get When You Go All the Way With Gun Rights’
By Curtis Houck | August 28, 2014 | 1:02 AM EDT Chris Matthews devoted a segment during his MSNBC show Hardball on Wednesday evening to the tragic shooting death of a firearms instructor at a Arizona gun range after a nine-year-old girl accidently shot him with an Uzi submachine gun. Instead of discussing how tragic this incident was or possible safety measures to take in the future, Matthews and his guests chose to rail against the National Rifle Association (NRA) for somehow being connected to this terrible incident.
At the conclusion of the six-and-a-half-minute segment, Matthews shamefully declared: “This is the slippery slope, what we're watching. This is where you get when you go all the way with gun rights. All the way is what it looks like – take a look at that girl. That's a slippery slope to hell.” [MP3 audio here; Video below]

In the immediate aftermath of the tragic shooting at Reynolds High School in Troutdale, Oregon, gun control fanatics were ready to go straight away to their never-ending crusade to slap more and more restrictions on gun rights. Some of them went on air, however, in the guise of apolitical security experts.
Take the June 10 edition of MSNBC’s The Cycle, where the panel brought on security and criminal investigation expert Anthony Roman to discuss the latest shooting. While the MSNBC hosts were mostly subdued throughout coverage of the story, a welcome development, Roman was more than ready to take up the banner for a fresh round of federal gun control laws [MP3 audio here; video below].
