On Monday’s All Things Considered, NPR media reporter David Folkenflik drew this unintentionally hilarious sentence out of NBC executive Alexandra Wallace: “Our job is to report on what's going on in the world. We're not activists. We're observers and analysts.”
Folkenflik’s story pressed on NBC News from the left, that they must campaign against Russian repression before, during, and after the Olympics. NBC protested they'd been interviewing gay athletes like Billie Jean King and Brian Boitano and letting them express their joy at being picked by Obama to represent the U.S. delegation. Russian gay lobbyist Konstantin Yablotskiy represented the Russian leftists:

USA Today Tops Front Page With Commentary Lauding Obama's Sochi Winter Olympics Snub: 'A Stroke of Genius'
By Tim Graham | December 18, 2013 | 11:19 PM EST Liberal journalists never mounted Olympics protests about free speech in the U.S.S.R., but they’re very excited about President Obama opposing the Russian law against “gay propaganda.” Obama is skipping the ceremonies and sending a lesbian tennis legend in his place.
Under the headline “Obama jabs at Putin’s anti-gay stance,” USA Today topped its front page Wednesday with a blatant Obama-loving editorial from sports columnist Christine Brennan. It began: “President Obama's selection of Billie Jean King for the official U.S. delegation to the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympic Games is a stroke of genius.” It was a "perfect call," Brennan claimed.
