In New Book, Gary Hart Whacks 'Partisan and Ideological Media' -- He Means Fox

Liberals often lament “partisan and ideological media” and what they mean if Fox News Channel and conservative talk radio. They don’t mean the partisan and ideological media that agree with them.

Liberal syndicated columnist Connie Schultz was selected by the partisan and ideological Washington Post to review former senator Gary Hart’s new book The Republic of Conscience, and that’s just how it appears in this book review. “Partisan and ideological media” are questioning the programs which make  America a “civilized society” – that is, a socialist society.

During a Wednesday Hardball discussion with former Democratic senator and presidential candidate Gary Hart, Matthews asked about “the ideological direction of the party right now” and added that Bernie Sanders is bringing a kind of 1960s message to Democratic politics. The Hardball host then moved on to discuss Hillary Clinton, making a very dubious observation: “Hillary Clinton [is] more of a conservative in a sense of more of a traditional politician from the center, center.”

Former Newsweek and New York Times Magazine writer Matt Bai has a new book out making the wild claim that the 1987 adultery scandal around Sen. Gary Hart marked "the week politics went tabloid" and ruined everything in national politics by pushing the media into focusing incessantly on the "character issue."

In a review Sunday in The New York Times Book Review, Reuters media columnist Jack Shafer pointed out the press was so cozy with Hart that Nixon-ruining Bob Woodward offered to let Hart quietly bunk at his house during marital troubles:

Gary Hart is mad at the Denver Post. Not for any bias on their part. Only because he doesn't like their editorial endorsement of Cory Gardner in the senate race from Colorado. Hart makes his displeasure with this "heresy" known in a letter to the editor of the Denver Post.
