Flashback: Media Exploited Giffords’ Shooting to Slime Conservatives

November 5th, 2022 12:30 PM

An exceptionally repulsive feature of journalism these days is when media figures use tragedies to smear their political adversaries as dangerous threats. That’s clearly happening now, and it happened in 2011, when irresponsible journalists wrongly blamed the conservative Tea Party for inciting the shooting of Rep. Gabby Giffords and murder of six other citizens.

STUDY: When There’s a Slaughter, the Press Loves to Blame the Right

May 23rd, 2022 9:50 AM

An avowed racist committed an unspeakable act on May 14, 2022, murdering 10 African Americans at a grocery story in Buffalo, New York. The mainstream media reacted in a sadly predictable way: They took an evil action by a disturbed individual and attempted to link conservatives everywhere to it.

Leftist ‘Disinformation’ Report Demands MORE Liberal Media Bias

In another example of liberal gaslighting, a coalition of leftist activists has come together to tell the media that they are not being sympathetic enough to their causes and explain how they can become better allies.

ESPN's Kornheiser Works Plug for Democrat Candidate Kelly into Show

February 23rd, 2019 7:04 PM
Pardon the interruption, Tony Kornheiser, but isn't your show of the same name supposed to be about sports, and not a platform for you to promote Democrat candidates? Yet in the closing segment of yesterday's PTI, Kornheiser managed to work in a plug for Mark Kelly, a Dem candidate for senator from Arizona. Kelly is the husband of former Dem Rep. Gabrielle Giffords. Kelly and Giffords became…

‘Hardball’ Ties Giffords Shooting to Rhetoric; Compares Now to 1960s

November 1st, 2018 10:15 PM
While January 8 will mark eight years since a mentally ill gunman killed six and nearly murdered then-Congresswoman Gabby Giffords (D-AZ), there are still far too many who have tried to tie opposition to ObamaCare, our country’s discourse, and Republicans to that tragedy and Thursday’s Hardball shamefully did just that. Giffords’ husband Mark Kelly was along side and host Chris Matthews went even…

LIES: WashPost Reporter Claims Conservatives Caused Giffords Shooting

October 12th, 2018 3:46 PM
In an insanely biased and nutty tweet Friday afternoon, Washington Post congressional correspondent Paul Kane falsely claimed that “right-wing anger/mobs” caused deranged Tuscon, Arizona shooter Jared Lee Loughner to kill six and nearly assassinate then-Democratic Congresswoman Gabby Giffords.

Palin Sues NYT After Paper Links Her to 2011 Giffords Shooting

June 28th, 2017 10:37 AM
After Republican Rep. Steve Scalise was shot by a Bernie Sanders supporter June 14, Democrats in the media and in office came out in droves to repeatedly blame Republicans and President Trump for the “rhetoric” that supposedly caused the attack. That’s right; a left-wing Bernie supporter tried to assassinate a Republican elected official and the media’s reaction was to blame the victim. The New…

Bozell & Graham Column: Joy Reid's Immoral Moment

June 20th, 2017 10:42 PM

America was stunned when Jared Loughner pulled out a gun at a Tucson supermarket parking lot in 2011 and shot Rep. Gabrielle Giffords in the head at point-blank range and killed six others. No one recalls any TV pundit wondering whether the people should root for Giffords to survive -- or anyone with the gall to imply her head wound was “self-inflicted.” That was not the case with the shooting…

NYT’s Douthat Lays Soft-Spoken Smackdown Upon the Liberal Media

June 18th, 2017 6:57 AM
New York Times columnist Ross Douthat, one of now two slightly right-leaning voices on the paper’s resolutely smugly liberal opinion page, penned “Notes on a Politcal Shooting” Sunday on the assassination attempt on House Republican Steve Scalise by a Bernie Sanders supporter. In his own diplomatic way -- his gentle tone a protective necessity to avoid riling the liberal comment section and…

NY Times Still Has Palin-Giffords Myth in Scalise Shooting Editorial

June 17th, 2017 1:57 PM
As the Media Research Center's Brent Bozell noted Thursday morning, a Wednesday evening New York Times editorial which made it into Thursday's print edition outrageously perpetuated "a long-debunked leftist conspiracy theory about Gov. Sarah Palin inciting the (2011 Gabby) Giffords shooting," even though the paper's "own news reporters declared just yesterday that there was no evidence linking…

Parade Magazine Skips Trumps, Promotes Liberal Gun-Control Couple

February 14th, 2017 3:54 PM
The Sunday newspaper supplement Parade Magazine has been an absolutely Trump-free zone since the election.  The Obamas repeatedly came for softball interviews and cover stories, for example as they promoted a “working families summit” in 2014. One can guess the Trumps aren’t granting access, but the magazine staff is almost pretending they don’t exist. On Sunday, Parade spotlighted a different…

Media Ignore Crimes of Lefty Protesters, While Smearing Conservatives

January 30th, 2017 4:42 PM
Media coverage of protests is so ideologically biased as to deceive the public.  Tea Party protests were law-abiding, and so orderly that they usually left no trash behind (unlike the recent Women’s March in Washington, or attendees of the 2009 Obama inauguration, who left behind lots of trash).

WashPost Writer Links Pizzagate to Abortion Videos, Giffords Shooting

December 7th, 2016 3:36 PM
Washington Post local columnist Petula Dvorak waded into the ginned-up fake news debate in her Tuesday column as she compared the false and unsubstantiated Pizzagate story to the “doctored” and “gotcha” videos that spawned the Planned Parenthood scandal and Sarah Palin causing then-Congresswoman Gabby Giffords to be shot in 2011 (even though the first case was real and the second was thoroughly…

'Daily Beast' Puts Rand Paul In Big Red Bullseye

August 7th, 2014 9:31 AM
It's different when the MSM puts a Republican inside a bullseye, because, uh . . . Remember when in 2011 voices on the left from Keith Olbermann to Paul Krugman to the Huffington Post among many others suggested that Sarah Palin was at least partially to blame for the shooting of Rep. Gabby Giffords because Palin had put out a map of House seats with bullseyes depicting districts, including…
