On Wednesday night, ABC’s World News Tonight and anchor David Muir restarted the media promotion of Chelsea Clinton’s new baby with Bill and Hillary Clinton as grandparents by spending 24 seconds informing viewers of the competition between Bill and Hillary for “who gets to read to Charlotte.”

Muir also took particular interest in how Hillary spends her time with the newest member of the Clinton family, remarking that Hillary has been “trying her hand at lullabies” and then joked that “we want the video of that.”

For the last several days, NewsBusters has been showcasing the Media Research Center’s “Best Notable Quotables of 2014” as a way to review the worst media bias of 2014. Today’s categories: the Pantsuit Patrol Award for Boosting Hillary Clinton, and the America’s Royal Baby Award.

Paul Bedard of The Washington Examiner delivered the inevitable news: “The media’s kissing up to the Clinton family, expected once Hillary Clinton jumps into the 2016 presidential race, has already arrived, thanks to Katie Couric's fawning interview of former first daughter Chelsea." Couric opened with a wide smile, “A woman of the year, and I think it’s safe to say, probably a ‘Mom of the Year.’ ”

From Saturday through Tuesday, the three networks devoted 14 and a half minutes of coverage to hyping Chelsea Clinton's new baby and Hillary's role as grandmother. Yet, ABC, CBS and NBC, over the entire month of September, didn't bother to cover the Benghazi investigation into the 2012 terror attacks. Many of the baby reports framed the story less about a new child and more as a benefit to Hillary Clinton's potential 2016 run for president.

On Monday’s ABC World News Tonight with David Muir, the program not only spent the fewest time covering the democracy protests in Hong Kong than fellow networks CBS and NBC, but it spent nearly twice as much time gushing over the newest member of the Clinton family than the protests that now number in the tens of thousands.

ABC’s evening newscast ran a news brief on the Hong Kong protests for greater electoral independence from Communist China that lasted for a scant 15 seconds, while two teases plus a mention during the program’s “Instant Index” segment totaled 32 seconds.

While ABC and NBC have moved on from their over-the-top gushing over Chelsea Clinton’s baby, CBS felt the need to continue to obsess over the announcement on Monday’s CBS This Morning. Reporter Bill Plante offered up a healthy dose of Clinton cheerleading when he proclaimed the baby to be the “newest member of a family of political royalty.”

On Friday night, Chelsea Clinton gave birth to her first child, Charlotte Clinton Mezvinsky, and ABC and NBC predictably swooned over the event and hyped the impact this could have on Hillary Clinton’s political future. On Sunday morning’s Good Morning America, ABC’s Mara Schiavocampo gushed “while America waits for Hillary’s decision if she'll run for president, a more important duty calls for now, diaper duty.”

Chelsea Clinton has announced the obvious: she’s leaving NBC News, telling People magazine in a statement she will “continue focusing on my work at the Clinton Foundation and as [her husband] Marc [Mezvinsky] and I look forward to welcoming our first child." New York magazine tweaked the news that Chelsea was "Leaving Her Unbelievably Cushy Fake Job at NBC."

As NBC nepotism goes, she made Luke Russert look like Edward R. Murrow. She’s been featured in only three reports in the last year, but still making the $600,000 salary. (So that's about $200,000 a story while her "news" career was in limbo, also known as the "Hillary speech rate.") We found her entire career was 30 reports (and four of those ran more than once). From June 14:

Team Hillary is staring daggers at New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd, the one journalist who actually won a Pulitzer (for commentary) on a Clinton scandal (Lewinsky).

Dowd had the audacity to knock Chelsea Clinton for giving speeches for $75,000 a pop, even if it went to the Clinton Foundation, which is designed for the further aggrandizement of the Clinton reputation. It began:

Following the stunning revelation last month that NBC News had paid special correspondent Chelsea Clinton a starting annual salary of $600,000, on Wednesday, the New York Times reported that the former first daughter was also getting paid $75,000 per appearance...given to the Clinton Foundation. Conflict of interest anyone?

Clinton spokesman Kamyl Bazbaz assured the Times that "100 percent of the fees are remitted directly to the foundation." So the money goes back into the foundation run by her and her family.

You'd think the Clintons would have learned by now that if they keep lobbing meatballs over the plate, Rush Limbaugh will keep cranking them out of the park.

Latest example of that delightful dynamic occurred after it was reported in the New York Daily News that Chelsea Clinton claims she is -- sigh -- indifferent toward money. Yes, the same Chelsea Clinton who, along with equally indifferent hubby, paid $10 million and change for swanky digs in NYC's Gramercy Park. The same Chelsea Clinton who was renumerated to the tune of $600,000 for a sporadic reporting gig at NBC News, despite paltry experience in journalism and while jobs in the industry go the way of the blacksmith. Former secretary of state Hillary Clinton told ABC's Diane Sawyer on June 9 that when she and her family left the White House in 2001, they were “dead broke.” The reaction to that remark took an interesting turn on Tuesday, when her husband and former president Bill Clinton leaped into the fray by asserting that his wife's comment “is factually true” and the potential 2016 Democratic presidential candidate is “not out of touch.”

The former Democratic occupant of the White House made his remarks during an interview with David Gregory, host of NBC's Meet the Press Sunday morning program, as part of an event for the Clinton Global Initiative in Denver.
