Donald Trump and Bernie Sanders represent two sides of the same coin. Both men have tapped into a deep anger -- a discontent -- in the public mood. But our anger should be directed less at politicians (although many are deservedly targets) and more at ourselves for expecting more from government than it can deliver.

It's been amusing in recent weeks to watch Washington pundits grappling with Trumpmania and the surge of Bernie Sanders. To say that the rise of these unusual candidates has been unsettling for the political elites would be a gross understatement.

On Wednesday night’s edition of The Rachel Maddow Show, Boston Globe national political reporter Annie Linskey sounded just like a writer from The People’s Republic of Massaschusetts, employing the words “wonderful and refreshing” to describe Bernie Sanders preaching the old-time religion of socialist reform.

Fill-in MSNBC host Ari Melber was asking about how Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton was handling this hard-left opponent. Linskey felt she was unexciting and failing to grab on to the Sanders socialist magic

Judging from his diverging comments to English and Spanish-language media outlets, when it comes to immigration Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders seems increasingly prone to speaking out of both sides of his mouth.

It "seems" that a bit of doubt seeped into an economy-related Associated Press report today. An hour later, it was gone.

An early report by Josh Boak with a 10:22 a.m. time stamp found at a subscribing outlet's site described job growth in the past 12 months as "seemingly robust." An hour later, in an expansion of that early report primarily covering today's government release on July retail sales, Boak, in collaboration with Anne D'Innocenzio, described it as "solid."

The “big three” networks of ABC, CBS, and NBC continued to cover on Wednesday night news that scandal-ridden Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton turned over her private e-mail server and numerous thumb drives to the FBI but largely brushed it off as “a headache” and “distraction” for Clinton in what has “been a tough summer.”

Sigh! Once again we are going to have to apply the Koch brothers test when it comes to journalists covering "grass-roots" protests. Here's how it goes: if the Koch brothers were financing an organization that was loudly protesting against candidates opposed by the Koch brothers, wouldn't that fact be highlighted in any story about such protests? Therefore, how can Politico's Daniel Strauss write a story about the Black Lives Matter not only protesting and disrupting Bernie Sanders events but even causing the cancellation of one of his speeches without any reference at all as to who is financing BLM and why.

Fortunately, the readers of his Politico article were quick to point out that which Strauss deliberately ignored. It is the very inconvenient fact of the financial backing of BLM by George Soros who is also (surprise! surprise!) supporting Hillary Clinton. First let us watch Strauss plunge into this story with eyes wide shut before his own readers school him on what he refuses to notice:

Imagine if the Koch brothers had financed a group that was regularly disrupting and shutting down events of candidates that they opposed. Does anybody doubt that the Koch connection would come up in the first paragraph, if not the first sentence, of most news stories about such disruptions? Yet somehow, complete silence from the MSM on the connection of George Soros to #BlackLivesMatter even though he is the providing most of the finances to that organization. Also mysterious is how the MSM also fails to note that Hillary Clinton, whom Soros supports, has not had her events disrupted by #SorosMoneyMatters (also known as #BlackLivesMatter).

"Chris Matthews stumped DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz when he asked her the difference between a Democrat and a socialist.  Obviously, it was a trick question… nowadays there IS no difference!" -- Jodi Miller, NewsBusted anchor

Wow! Suddenly this week Politico reporter Mike Elk shook off his cloak of extreme lethargy and became like the Energizer Bunny. Gone was his PTSD and STSD (Secondary Traumatic Stress Disorder) which he claims inhibit him from working. Despite not having done a bit of work for six months, there he was front and center at a press conference asking Democrat presidential candidate Bernie Sanders questions.  So what was the subject of Elk's inquiry? It was about how badly treated he is at his employer Politico because they haven't approved card check in voting on whether to form a union shop.

On Thursday, CBS This Morning cheered Bernie Sanders’ “unconventional presidential campaign” as “evidence that a lot of little gatherings can add up to one massive crowd.” Host Charlie Rose lauded Sanders for “showing us again this morning that his campaign his different. The Vermont Senator could not leave Washington, so he streamed a speech to thousands of small gatherings around the country.”

Andrea Mitchell apparently had a brain freeze on Friday as she tried to come up with a synonym for the "progressive" policies of Bernie Sanders. While discussing Hillary Clinton, Mitchell stumbled, "It is her trying to walk the line between the far more progressive and far more –  I don't know what to call them other than the progressive policies – of Bernie Sanders which have caught fire certainly in Iowa." Mitchell "doesn't know what to call" the policies of Bernie Sanders?  Bernie Sanders has repeatedly called himself a socialist. So, how about starting there?
