The ascendance of “extreme left” forces in the Democrat Party, currently on the march in the candidacy of socialist Senator Bernie Sanders, emerged as a surprising focus of attention and shared concern among both the Republican and Democrat panelists on Univision’s weekly public affairs program, Al Punto.

Veteran journalist Jeff Greenfield joined host Lawrence O’Donnell on Thursday’s edition of MSNBC’s The Last Word for some old-fashioned liberal punditry and expressed hope that the growing support for socialist presidential candidate Bernie Sanders could signal the “healthy” birth of “a socialist wing of the Democratic Party...that Europeans would recognize as a left wing.”

This could get entertaining . . . Mark Halperin says that, faced with plunging poll numbers, Hillary's only hope of victory is to "win ugly."

Appearing on today's Morning Joe, Halperin explained that by "win ugly" he means drawing invidious comparisons with her opponents, such as emphasizing that Bernie Sanders is a socialist and Trump a billionaire developer.  Should we prepare for the Hillary Red Scare? "I have here in my hand a list of 205 socialists in the Sanders campaign!"

In the only Thursday evening network newscast story on the 2016 Democratic field, the CBS Evening News chose to make no mention of Hillary Clinton’s numerous scandals as she’s losing ground in polls to Bernie Sanders but provided her a soundbite to self-servingly claim she’s merely “moderate and center” in her political ideology.

New York Times public editor Margaret Sullivan posted a blog on Wednesday acknowledging those who support Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders are right to be upset over the lack of meaningful coverage on his campaign.

While ABC’s World News Tonight aired on Tuesday David Muir’s exclusive interview with Hillary Clinton, the CBS Evening News and NBC Nightly News soldiered on with full stories on the 2016 campaign boosting the Clinton camp’s “reset” trying to promote the candidate’s “fun side...along with a lighter touch” in an attempt “to match the exuberance surrounding Bernie Sanders.”

Democrats' current and potential candidates for their party's 2016 presidential nomination continue to complain about various aspects of the economy. They continue to make no connection between their complaints and the fact that Democrat Barack Obama has been in the White House for over six years. Obama has for the most part operated either under the conditions created by the 2009-2010 Congress or, when resisted, by unilaterally ruling through executive orders and arbitrary regulatory actions.

Establishment press outlets, likely recognizing the candidates' hypocrisy, mostly fail to carry their complaints — and when they do, they make no attempt to note that the candidates are citing areas the Obama administration has either failed to address, or has attempted to address counterproductively. This pattern of behavior became so obvious yesterday as a result of Vice President Joe Biden's appearance in Pittsburgh that National Review and IJ Review contributor Stephen Miller tweeted the following:

During Thursday’s All In on MSNBC, what began as a discussion of socialist Bernie Sanders between host Chris Hayes and national correspondent Joy Reid suddenly morphed into the pair gushing over how some supporters of Hillary Clinton “are devoted diehards” that “we tend to underestimate” in the media.

Reacting to a new CNN poll finding Hillary Clinton's poll numbers slipping, New Day's Chris Cuomo admitted to journalistic boosting of Bernie Sanders. The anchor insisted, "We, and a lot in the media, were encouraging of Bernie Sanders getting in the race because the senator from Vermont does provoke a lot of passion from the left part of that party." Cuomo proclaimed: "We thought that that would be an interesting mix of ideas because, certainly, the Clintons are more known for the centrism that they present to the Democrats."

The Cold War is clearly over. In just a few decades, the media have dragged the U.S. from red, white and blue to just red. ABC, CBS and NBC have normalized the far-left views of socialist presidential candidate Bernie Sanders simply by refusing to say the word “socialism” -- ignoring it in 82 percent of stories.

Socialism, which used to be equated with “gulag,” bread lines and the deaths of tens of millions of innocent people, has become mainstream in the news media and an afterthought in their coverage.
