MSNBC's Matthews Hits Obama for Handling of ISIS: 'It Doesn't Sound Real'

Last week I noted how MSNBC's Chris Matthews, who usually has tingles down his leg for the president, was taken aback by Barack Obama's statement regarding the ISIS beheading of American freelance journalist James Foley.

Tonight a frustrated Matthews expressed his frustration with Mr. Obama once again, asking his guests Bobby Ghosh and Howard Fineman why the president didn't couch the U.S. response to the bloodthirsty Islamist terrorists as a defense of American honor. Why, Matthews wondered, did Obama stick to business as usual "playing golf last week when he had the American people's attention?" Why doesn't Obama "fight like a street fighter when it comes to defending the lives of Americans"? The relevant transcript appears below the page break (emphais mine; MP3 audio here; video follows page break):

NBC Touts Obama’s Promise to Fix the VA and IG Report Despite Concerns from Whistle-Blower

On Tuesday evening, NBC Nightly News offered a soft news brief on the scandal-ridden Veterans Affairs (VA) Administration by promoting President Barack Obama’s calls that the VA’s many issues will be fixed on his watch. In addition, substitute anchor Lestor Holt made quick mention of an inspector general’s report that the actions of the agency in delays in veterans waiting for care did not result in any veteran’s death.

What NBC Nightly News failed to mention in their one-sided report was that skepticism surrounding the VA remains as both widows of veterans who died awaiting care and one of the whistle-blowers who brought the problems at the VA to light are publically raising doubts about the report’s findings. Liberals Force Black NY Times Reporter to Disavow Calling Michael Brown 'No Angel'

People on the Left rarely complain about news coverage by the New York Times, but it took only two words to generate a torrent of criticism -- which is usually reserved for conservative Republicans -- regarding an article that profiled Michael Brown, the young African-American man who was shot and killed by white police officer Darren Wilson on August 9 in Ferguson, Missouri.

In a front-page obituary timed to coincide with Brown's funeral on Monday, John Eligon -- a 31-year-old black reporter for the left-wing newspaper -- stated that the 18-year-old victim spent his “last weeks grappling with problems and promise” but was nevertheless described as “no angel.”

CNN's Costello Lauds 'Very Smart' Burger King Merger; 'Depressed' Congress Won't Reform Tax Code

On Tuesday's CNN Newsroom, Carol Costello refreshingly complimented Burger King's planned merger with Canadian restaurant chain Tim Hortons as a "very smart business move" that will "save the company money." Costello turned to CNN correspondent Christine Romans, who spotlighted how "corporate taxes are lower in Canada than they are in the U.S.," and that "the stock is up because everyone on Wall Street...thinks this is going to lower the tax bill for Burger King."

The anchor also brought on Curtis Dubay of the conservative Heritage Foundation, who underlined that "our tax code makes it uncompetitive around the world. And so, they're doing something to get out from under that burden. They're doing what's right for their shareholders and their owners....What has to be done is the tax code has to be reformed. We have to have corporate tax reform." This prompted Costello to lament that Congress probably won't do anything to reform the tax code: [MP3 audio available here; video below the jump]

Chris Matthews Plots Strategy With Dems on How to Use Ferguson Unrest for Midterms

It's not surprising that MSNBC's Chris Matthews would frame the racial unrest in Ferguson through a political lens. The liberal host on Monday brought on two prominent Democrats to plot strategy on how the fallout from the Michael Brown shooting could be appropriated. After pointing out that the teen's death "might have political implications this coming November," he wondered, "...Could anger over the Brown case motivate more African-American voters to turn up this November?" [See video below. MP3 audio here.]

To discuss this, Matthews, a former Democratic operative, brought on Democratic Congressman Elijah Cummings and Democratic pollster Margie Omero. It wasn't hard to figure who he hoping the shooting could benefit. Highlighting past examples, the MSNBC anchor asserted, "So, if a member of Congress from a minority community wants to get people outraged -- they are outraged -- get them voting, it seems to me this would be a weapon to do that with."

Daily Beast Writer: Got White Guilt Over Ferguson? Oppose Voter ID Laws!

With the streets of Ferguson now quiet and the body of Michael Brown laid to rest, you could count on our friends at the Daily Beast to find fresh ways to exploit the tragic episode for political ends.

Witness contributor Jacob Lupfer's prescription for how white Americans should respond to the shooting death of the Missouri teenager: oppose efforts to tighten voter ID laws:

Major Newspapers Skew 15-1 Against For-Profit Colleges

The Obama administration continues its push to regulate for-profit colleges and national media outlets have joined in and overwhelmingly taken the side of bigger government.

Three top newspapers – The New York Times, the Los Angeles Times and USA Today – portrayed for-profit education negatively by a factor of 15-1 in roughly three years of news coverage.

Prof Loses Job Offer Over Israel Hate Tweets. Media Howls About ‘Academic Freedom’

Editor's note: This article contains offensive language.

You would think in uber-liberal academia, a leftist professor could get away saying anything. But apparently you can go too far. Earlier this month, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign rescinded its offer to Steven Salaita, a Palestinian-American former Virginia Tech professor, for a tenured position in the American Indian Studies department. Why?

Because of dozens of tweets Salaita made from his Twitter account preaching hatred of Israel and bashing America’s ties to the Jewish homeland. At the news of his hiring earlier in the Summer, the university started to get backlash from students, parents and donors who did not appreciate Salaita’s aggressively unfriendly attitude towards Israel. So the Univ. of Illinois’ Chancellor Phyllis Wise wrote to Salaita, stating he was no longer welcome as a professor at the university.

'Lean Over' MSNBC: Al Sharpton's Most Embarrassing Moments at the Anchor Desk

Of all the left-wing charlatans who have been given hosting responsibilities at MSNBC, PoliticsNation's Al Sharpton is perhaps the worst example of trying to pass off an activist as a journalist. It's impossible to tell where the race-baiting reverend's advocacy ends and his supposed reporting begins. [Watch the video after the jump]

This is the second installment of the Media Research Center #LeanOver campaign to let the craziness of radical MSNBCers speak for itself. The first video highlighted the rantings of Hardball host Chris Matthews. Look for a similar takedown of Ed Schultz in the coming days.

Networks Silent as ISIS Continues ‘Convert or Die’ Oppression of Christians

The broadcast networks haven’t reported on the plight of Iraq’s Christians in weeks – in fact, ABC only mentioned them once. So everything must be ok, right? Wrong.

WorldWatch Monitor, a news outlet focused on Christian persecution, reported on Aug. 22 about Iraqi Christian Mikha Qasha who told Mid-East Christian News that ISIS gave him one week to either “leave, convert to Islam or face the sword.” The threat came with “weapons pointed at his head.” Elderly and paralyzed, Qasha fled from Qaraqosh – in a wheelchair – to Ankawa, a Christian suburb, according to the story, which was picked up by Christian Today and Charisma News
