MSNBC's Schultz: Bergdahl Criticism Shows Republicans to be 'Ruthless' Muslim Haters

June 6th, 2014 3:45 PM

Doing his best to keep the Obama administration’s front line from falling into retreat, MSNBC’s Ed Schultz sprayed rhetorical cover fire all over the place on his June 5 program, defending Team Obama’s much-criticized deal to release Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl in exchange for five deadly Taliban leaders.

Within the first two minutes of Thursday’s The Ed Show, Schultz called Republicans “ruthless and without boundaries,” using Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl’s family as “a tool in their toolbox to take down President Obama.” According to Schultz, Republicans “can’t stand the fact that [Bergdahl’s father] Bob Bergdahl doesn’t hate Muslims.” [See video below. Three minutes later, Schultz continued his radical left-wing rant with the outrageous claim that Republicans seek to take the investigation of Bergdahl’s disappearance away from the military, because they believe “they know more than the military brass...They think our generals are idiots.”

Oddly enough, the only pundits out there truly questioning the military are liberals who downplay or outright dismiss a 2010 Pentagon investigation that determined that Bergdahl had abandoned his post the night in which he disappeared.

Perhaps someone should ask ol’ Sergeant Schultz about that report, but we expect he’d insist he knows nothing.

ED SCHULTZ: These guys are ruthless. They have no boundaries. Republicans have made Bob Bergdahl a tool in their toolbox to take down President Obama. They'll try anything. They don't like the way he looks. They don't like the way he talks. They don't like what comes out of his mouth and they can't stand the fact that Bob Bergdahl doesn't hate Muslims. Last night Sean Hannity wasted no time jabbing the father of a POW.

SEAN HANNITY: Bob Bergdahl, the father of freed Taliban captive sergeant Bowe Bergdahl, well, he caused a firestorm of controversy when he spoke in Arabic at a press conference with President Obama on Saturday. Now, the Arabic phrase reportedly translates to, quote, "in the name of Allah, the merciful and compassionate." Now, Bob Bergdahl who learned arabic and Pashto reportedly grew a beard in an effort to win sympathy from his son's captors.

SCHULTZ: But you see, the problem is that there’s are a lot of members of members of congress who do not think the military brass has the intelligence to take care of this. For Congress and the conservative media to suggest that they know more than the military brass is an outrage. It's an insult. Republicans, they're not supporting the troops. They're attacking the troops. They think our generals are idiots and can't figure out what happened to this guy, and they don't want to give him time to do it because they hate Obama so much. Republicans are disingenuous when they claim to support the troops and attack Bowe Bergdahl’s father. The one person who is supporting the troops, is President Obama. He is standing behind his decision.
