There He Goes Again: Malloy Smears NRA Members as 'Current Incarnation' of Nazi Brownshirts

Isn't it amusing, albeit in a sad way, when liberals engage in Nazi tactics while comparing conservatives to Nazis? The irony is invariably lost on left wingers when they do this, despite their unhealthy pride in their alleged self-awareness.

On his radio show March 25, Mike Malloy threatened to shoot an unspecified National Rifle Association board member, regardless of whether he or she was armed. Three days later, Malloy was comparing NRA members to Nazis. On the bright side, the trend here might be perceived as positive. (Audio after the jump)

Malloy's kneejerk comparison came after one of his listeners claimed the US is devolving a police state as dictated by the "haves" (audio) --

CALLER: We're looking at a situation where the walled mentality of the haves is going to wage war across our country to suppress evolution. (And after that, they're gonna reverse the flow of time. Run for your lives!)

MALLOY: Well, I, I, yeah, I hear what you're saying (liberal code: you're even more nuts than me) and that is a legitimate concern and I'll add something to it. What the oligarchs, as you put them, what the one percent, either way is good enough for me, what they'll be using, they won't necessarily be using drone strikes. They're going to hire all the brownshirt thugs that apparently make up the membership of the NRA. That's all the NRA is. It's a bunch of cowardly thugs who like to carry their guns because they can't walk around with their flies unzipped, and they'd be afraid to walk around with their flies unzipped (unlike Malloy, who revels in the practice) for obvious reasons.

But, you know, the NRA members are the current incarnation of the brownshirts from Germany back in the early '30s, late '20s, early '30s. Now, of course, there came the Night of the Long Knives when the brownshirts were slaughtered and dumped in the nearest ditches when the power structure finally got tired of them. So I look forward to that day.

But of course Malloy looks forward to this -- as you'd expect from a man who urged Pope Francis to execute Supreme Court justice Antonin Scalia. Then there was the time Malloy said he wanted "the Republican Party dead. ... I mean, literally dead!" Or when he suggested that House Speaker John Boehner should "drown himself in a vat of wine," the beheading of "tea baggers" by a wrathful angel of death, that Navy SEALS should take out George W. Bush, etc., etc., ad nauseum.

In case you're wondering about Malloy's background, he was a news writer for CNN back in the mid-1980s and returned to work for CNN International in 2000, according to his Wikipedia page. After that he was a fixture on the now-defunct Air America Radio, working with such leftist luminaries as Rachel Maddow and Al Franken. Maddow thought so highly of him that she appeared on Malloy's radio show in 2010 and gushed, "We all love you for your dark thoughts." Apparently this affection wasn't shared by Air America management, who fired Malloy in 2006. Wow -- beyond the pale even for Air America.

What makes Malloy's comparison between NRA members and Nazis all the more laughable is his ignorance or avoidance of the historical reality -- the Nazis were ardent proponents of gun control. NRA members, on the other hand, aren't -- just the opposite. Liberals point out that the Nazi gun law passed in 1938 -- six months before the ruthless Kristallnache pogrom -- actually loosened gun restrictions. Which it did -- for party members and others seen favorably by the regime. But for Jews and other "undesirables," not only were they forbidden to own, possess or sell firearms, even knives and other potential weapons were banned. After all, it's far easier to herd people into boxcars when they can't fight back.

Malloy is also guilty of violating Godwin's Law, which states that he who first invokes the Nazis, loses. Truth be told, I've never been a fan of Godwin's pithy rule. I loathe gratuitous Nazi references as much as the next guy, but I find it more objectionable for conservatives to relinquish one of our most devastating arguments against the left -- namely, that the Nazis were socialists. In fact, the word "Nazi" is an abbreviation of the German word Nationalsozialist and the full name of Hitler's political party was the National Socialist German Workers' Party. Anyone who reads through the Nazi party platform will quickly notice its many parallels with the obsessions of the American left.

A question I like to ask liberals when the predictable Nazis-were-conservatives claim comes up -- after World War II ended, Germany was divided into halves: communist East Germany and capitalist West. The Nazis, we're told by the left, had epitomized conservative capitalism, sometimes called corporatism. Yet of the two post-war Germanys, which more closely resembled Nazi Germany? If what liberals claim about the Nazis were true, it should have been West Germany that was the totalitarian police state -- but it wasn't, as anyone who lived through the Cold War and looks back at it honestly is aware. East Germany was a direct political and cultural descendant of the Nazi regime.

Worth pointing out the next time a liberal parrots this most revered of their myths.
