Joe Scarborough: Republicans Are ‘Too Obsessed On Hating Barack Obama’

November 12th, 2013 1:05 PM

MSNBC’s quasi-conservative darling Joe Scarborough seemed right at home as he guest-hosted ABC’s The View on November 12, walking on set arm-in-arm with Barbara Walters before taking aim squarely at folks who dare to be further on the right than he.

Appearing on the show Tuesday, Scarborough lambasted Republicans who were unhappy with Governor Chris Christie (R-N.J.) for hugging President Obama after Hurricane Sandy in 2012, claiming that, “people that would judge Chris Christie because he hugged Barack Obama, first of all, they're too obsessed on hating Barack Obama.” [See video after jump. MP3 audio here.]

Scarborough fails to realize that conservative dissatisfaction with Christie went beyond simply hugging the president. Despite being a surrogate to Mitt Romney, Christie refused to criticize President Obama for his failed policies leading up to the 2012 election. Of course conservatives are upset with Christie, and hugging Barack Obama was merely a symbol for the Republican’s failure to confront President Obama’s failed first term as president. Instead, Scarborough’s misguided views caused him to believe that it’s all about “hating Barack Obama.”

The Morning Joe host's comments came immediately after shaming conservatives for the government shutdown, saying that:

The good news is the shutdown was so bad and so stupid, we have all-time low approval ratings in the Republican Party and you finally have most Republicans saying, hey, wait a second maybe we should try to get people voting for us and supporting our policies.

Once again, Scarborough buys into and furthers the liberal media's fallacious narratives rather than challenging the conventional wisdom. After all, the Republican House passed numerous bills up to the Democratic Senate which leaders failed to act on. What's more, President Obama threatened vetoes on pretty much every Republican proposal, yet those actions were overlooked by the media or accepted as legitimate rather than obstructive.

In typical Scarborough fashion, the MSNBC host next had to make a story about Chris Christie all about, well, Joe Scarborough:

I didn't like Bill Clinton back when I was in Congress. I feel your pain. – I’d be like he's lying, you know he’s lying. But when we had a hurricane come to my district, you know what he did, I hugged him…

Scarborough concluded his anti-conservative rant by shaming conservatives one more time by proclaiming, “So Chris Christie hugged Barack Obama. Get over it.” The ladies at The View jumped all over this and proceeded to cheer Scarborough on, just like the rest of the liberals in the audience.

JOE SCARBOROUGH: Listen, we've been going in a terrible direction. I think the good news is the shutdown was so bad and so stupid, we have all-time low approval ratings in the Republican Party and you finally have most Republicans saying, hey, wait a second maybe we should try to get people voting for us and supporting our policies.

SHERRI SHEPHERD: But it's so funny because Chris Christie actually did when he won, he got a lot of the Democrats together with Republicans to vote for him but it seems like when Hurricane Sandy happened, he came through like a hero, he got together with Obama, you know, forget everything else but then it seems like he was shut out.

SCARBOROUGH: The fact is, though, again, about as many people say they’re going to vote for him as president don't. It's like a field of 20 right now. The fact is, people that would judge Chris Christie because he hugged Barack Obama, first of all, they're too obsessed on hating Barack Obama. Secondly, secondly, I got to tell you, I didn't like Bill Clinton back when I was inCongress. I feel your pain. – I’d be like he's lying, you know he’s lying. But when we had a hurricane come to my district, you know what he did, I hugged him and I said, you know what, we've got business people that are hurting. We need SBA loans. We've got people that are out of their homes. We need help from FEMA. When you have a president come to your district, even the most conservative, Republicans will say, I'm glad he's here, we need his help. My kids need to get back to school. So Chris Christie hugged Barack Obama. Get over it.
