Mika To The Barricades! Will Participate In Fast-Food Pay Protest

August 8th, 2013 9:11 AM

Mika to the barricades! Move over, Reverend Al.  You're not the only MSNBC host who moonlights as a liberal activist. On today's Morning Joe, Mika Brzezinski announced that she will be not merely be covering a pay protest by fast-food workers in Detroit on August 29th--she'll be an active participant in it.

Joe Scarborough tried—in vain—to school Mika on Econ 101.  But she did the equivalent of covering her ears and nattering "nah, nah, nah: can't hear you!"  Scarborough said he'd also be at the protest--on the sidelines, with a bullhorn. View the video after the jump.

It really is Mika's tuning out of any actual information that might contradict her good intentions on the matter that is most striking.  She simply doesn't want to be confused with the facts: that articially increasing wages will result in the very people she wants to help losing their jobs.  Feelings trump facts among many liberals.

MIKA BRZEZINSKI [reading from NYT editorial supporting pay protests]: "The great recession and the slow recovery have reinforced trends toward inequality and inadequate pay that were evident even before the last downturn. Fast food workers are fighting back in just cause." And we're going to Detroit on August 29th. And there happens to be a protest that day. So we'll be going. I'm going. Congressman Keith Ellison told me about it.  I'm going to go and cover it and be in it.

JOE SCARBOROUGH: This is basic -- this is basic Econ 101.

BRZEZINSKI: Yeah. OK, fine.  Econ 101. Yeah. Treat people badly, pay them terribly and be proud of your profits. Econ 101.

SCARBOROUGH: There's really nothing I can say here . . . We all -- we all would love fast-food people to get paid $15 an hour and if the market supports it I support it.

BRZEZINSKI: I guess you won't be at the protest with me?

SCARBOROUGH: Oh, I will.

BRZEZINSKI: Thank you.

SCARBOROUGH: With a bullhorn on the sidelines.
