So much for that non-political “Live Earth” I heard about from the concert people and NBC brass.
It turned out that Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the radical environmentalist, had some strong words for politicians who stand against climate change legislation.
“Get rid of all these rotten politicians that we have in Washington, who are nothing more than corporate toadies … This is treason. And we need to start treating them as traitors,” Kennedy said at the July 7 concert held in New Jersey, according to Newsday.
Let's see. If I remember correctly, the penalty for treason is execution.
“[Y]ou hear this from the oil industry and the coal industry and their ‘indentured servants’ in our political process that global climate stability is a luxury that we can’t afford,” said Kennedy without specifically naming names. Though it didn't take a genius to know who he was talking about. (Cough ... Inhofe ... Cough) I should note that Kennedy himself used air quotes around “indentured servants.”
Kennedy also laughingly said that environmental policy is “identical to good economic policy,” conveniently leaving out the billions it would cost taxpayers.
“Live Earth” was presented to Congress as a non-partisan event when some politicians and Chad Griffin, an adviser to “Live Earth,” attempted to get permission to hold an event on the Capitol grounds. But when an event is hosted by a former vice president lobbying for political change, you still have to call a spade, a spade.
The concerts ran on several networks, including NBC. Dan Harrison, an NBC senior vice president, also defended “Live Earth” as a non-political effort.

July 9, 2007 - 18:30 ET by stratmanJunior is the same jackass that worked night and day tirelessly to kill windmills off Uncle Ted's island, opps, I mean democratic people's island of Nantucket:
---------------
"I definitely support alternative energy," Robert Kennedy told a local public radio program. But he insisted that the wind farm plan "makes no sense for the public because the costs it's going to impose on the people of these regions are so huge . . . probably larger than coal. This isn't just about wealthy people objecting to the diminishment of property values, but that's an important issue too," he added. "The aesthetics are going to forbid people from going there."
The alliance says the wind farm would spoil tourism, kill migratory birds and create a "permanent industrial facility in a pristine natural environment." And the towers would be illuminated at night to warn boats and aircraft, turning the coastline into a Christmas tree.
---------------
Maybe Uncle T. couldn't see the windmills from his home but he worried they would get in the way of his sailing about. Only the effete elite are worthy of "asthetics".
So if the newfangled but less asthetically pleasing and more costly fluorescent light bulbs Junior is pushng cost more than regular incandescent light bulbs, does that mean I can one-finger salute him for telling me what to do for lighting and Uncle T. will kill any more talk about mandating fluorescent light bulbs?
These transparent, pompous, arrogant bastards are sickening.
There are really only three &
July 9, 2007 - 19:30 ET by alamojbThere are really only three "non-fossil" power sources that have any chance of being a major "alternative".
One is Hydroelectric. The problem is environmentalist now blame these plants for producing methane gas, a greenhouse gas. Plus they hamper things like Salmon. It is doubtful we will be able to build many more large Hydroelectric plants anytime soon in the U.S. under the current political climate.
The second obvious one is wind power. Ironically, "Big Oil " Texas now has more of those installed than any other state. The problem is, there are only certain parts of the country where there are enough sustained winds to make these things practical. Coastal areas being one of those.
The Third is Nuclear. But we all know who will oppose that, also. I see no reason why we should not build Hardened Nuclear power plants on some of the more remote military bases.
At best, solar power will be a "peak power " source, not a true base generation system, unless we plan on killing all the rest of our manufacturing facilities and chemical plants. Keeping a few light bulbs glowing and maybe heating your water on the roof is one thing, but supplying a 24 hour auto plant running on solar power alone, forget about it.
Geothermal could be developed more perhaps. Some have suggested using Geothermal power plants on some of the Alaskan Islands to generate Hydrogen from seawater ,then ship it to the mainland. I doubt there is enough for everybody though.
We could also burn more of our trash to generate electricity, but I suspect there would be opposition there as well due to the exhaust.
In other words, any Real alternatives will be opposed by many of the same people who are crying for alternatives.

July 10, 2007 - 16:45 ET by QueenMumThere are already a good number of nuclear power facilities in the U.S. that have been online for quite a while.
It's not necessary for the military to be involved in "hardening" these plants or for them to be located on military installations.. The core of the reactor is buried deep underground and is not likely to be a terrorism risk. And these facilities are already under the regulation of the U.S. Dept. of Energy., the A.E.C. and the U.S. NRC. Besides, it's necessary for these plants to be near water sources for the purpose of cooling.
