When TV’s Sunday-morning political chat shows book conservative guests, maybe they’re just trying to be evenhanded, but The Nation media blogger Leslie Savan opined in a Tuesday post that often the programs do it so that the right will be less likely to badger them about their liberal bias. As Savan put it, “Sometimes seeking balance is really a plea to call off the dogs.”

What riled up Savan in the first place was one such booking, of Dinesh D’Souza on last Sunday’s “This Week With George Stephanopoulos,” but she also griped about the Sunday shows generally letting Tea Party guests off easy (“It’s as if mainstream media are as afraid of the far right as John Boehner is”) as well as about “the corporate media…offer[ing] their stage to far-right media figures” including Laura Ingraham.

ABC This Week co-host Martha Raddatz did her best to spin away the crisis at the border by pushing White House talking points during an interview with Governor Rick Perry (R-TX) on Sunday.

Raddatz insisted that the crisis was a result of a 2008 law signed by President Bush, with no consideration given to President Obama’s role in the surge of illegal border crossings. 

ABC’s George Stephanopoulos, co-host of Good Morning America and moderator of This Week, sat down with Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor for an interview that aired on Sunday, June 22. 

The interview, which was more of a glowing profile of Ms. Sotomayor, touched on a variety of subjects ranging from her recent encounter with Hillary Clinton to whether or not the justice still experienced sexism on the bench. Stephanopoulos wondered “You also write in your book about some of the sexism you faced even as a prosecutor. Any as a Supreme Court justice or does it go away?” [See video below.]

UPDATE: On the June 10 Evening News, CBS’s Vicente Arenas reported: “The influx of children is being blamed on poverty and drug-related violence in Central America. It’s also thought some parents wrongly believe policy changes made by President Obama prohibit young, illegal immigrants from being deported.”

Late last week, detention centers along the U.S.-Mexican border were crushed with a new surge of unaccompanied illegal immigrant children, yet two of the Big Three networks have barely touched this new headache for the Obama administration.

And not a single reporter or anchor on ABC, CBS or NBC have cited Barack Obama’s extension of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) as cause for a humanitarian crisis that has led to children as young as 9-years-old illegally crossing the border without their parents. Susan Rice, former U.N. Ambassador and current National Security Advisor for President Obama, sat down with CNN’s Candy Crowley and ABC’s George Stephanopoulos on Sunday, June 1 to discuss a variety of foreign policy topics, yet Stephanopoulos refused to ask his guest about the latest surrounding the Benghazi investigation. 

Rice appeared on both This Week and State of the Union to talk about the decision by the United States to release 5 prisoners from Guantanamo Bay in exchange for the Taliban releasing an American soldier held captive and only CNN's Candy Crowley brought up Benghazi to Ambassador Rice.
