Networks Fail to Mention VA Whistle-Blower Silencers Received $100K in Bonuses

During the barely two minutes of coverage they allotted to a House hearing on VA scandal whistle-blowers, ABC, CBS, and NBC on Wednesday morning refused to report that the VA officials who tried to silence their colleagues for reporting wrongdoing within the agency received over $100,000 in bonuses in 2013.

Coverage of the House of Veterans Affairs Committee hearing from Tuesday night totaled 2 minutes and 24 seconds with only 44 seconds of that from NBC’s Today and a scant 26 seconds from ABC’s Good Morning America. [MP3 audio here; Video below]

Networks Ignore Damning Report on ObamaCare Enrollment Problems

On Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning, all three broadcast news networks and the two largest Spanish language evening network newscasts refused to cover disturbing news regarding ObamaCare. Two audits from the Health and Human Services Department’s Inspector General found Tuesday that 2.6 million unresolved problems in the applications of those seeking health care on the federal marketplace (used in 36 states).

While the news media are conducting a blackout on this troubling news about Obamacare, the networks gave plenty of coverage to President Obama’s so-called ‘victory-lap’ in April when the number of those ostensibly enrolled hit eight million people and weeks earlier when the deadline to receive initial coverage passed.

Establishment Press Ignores House Vote to Defund Operation Choke Point

A month ago, I noted that the establishment press has ignored an especially pernicious program undertaken by Eric Holder's Department of Justice and the Obama administration's regulatory apparatus, namely Operation Choke Point.

On Thursday, a strong 321-87 bipartisan majority of the House passed H.R. 4660, the "Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act (of) 2015." Among its provisions: "Sec. 554. None of the funds made available in this Act may be used to carry out Operation Choke Point." The final bill's supporters included 204 Republicans and 117 Democrats. As we at NewsBusters have documented, the liberal media have shown no lack of interest in the candidacy of American Idol runner-up turned Democratic politician Clay Aiken.

So it should be interesting to see the coverage, or lack thereof, for Mr. Aiken having tweeted a while back, "Anyone else watching @piersmorgan want to punch Ann Coulter in the face?" What's more, reports blogger Sooper Mexican, Aiken once all but urged fans to call Coulter a c**t. War on women, anyone?

WashTimes's Miller: D.C. Judge Convicts Man for Possession of... Musket Balls?!

A Virginia businessman has been convicted of violating Washington, D.C. gun laws for possessing what amounts to, wait for it, replica musket balls. For that he was sentenced to time served, fined $50, and forced to enroll in the District's gun-offender registry.

Dem Who Pled Guilty to Illegal Fundraising for D.C. Mayor Also Contributed to Hillary; Nets Ignore

A prominent Democrat who illegally funneled $660,000 into the mayoral campaign of Vincent Gray in 2010 also contributed to Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, according to the Washington Times. All three networks on Monday night and Tuesday morning ignored the story. Prosecutors claimed that Mayor Gray had knowledge of the illegal "shadow" campaign run by Jeffrey Thompson. 

Times writer Dave Boyer explained the connection to other high-profile Democrats: "Despite Hillary Rodham Clinton’s promise that she had scrubbed illegal cash contributions from her 2008 presidential campaign, prosecutors revealed Monday that the mastermind of Mayor Vincent C. Gray’s 'shadow campaign' also funneled hundreds of thousands of dollars to aid Mrs. Clinton’s bid for the White House." 

Will Media Report? As a Non-Profit Hospital Lays Off Hundreds, Bill Clinton Cashes In

As the Clintons gear up for what appears to be a 2016 presidential run, journalists are already downplaying the potential negatives Bill Clinton would create for Hillary. According to the Washington Times, the former President has cashed in on a non-profit hospital, taking nearly a quarter million dollars in speaking fees as the hospital laid off hundreds. 

Writer Jim McElhatton explained, "Bill Clinton accepted a $225,000 speaking fee from the nonprofit Washington Hospital Center smack in the middle of two big rounds of layoffs in 2012." He added, "The $225,000 payment wasn't made public by the hospital on its annual Internal Revenue Service forms, but rather appeared among dozens of lucrative speeches by Mr. Clinton reported on his wife's final ethics filing as secretary of state."

The same Washington, D.C., prosecutor who refused to press charges against NBC's David Gregory for violating -- on national TV no less -- a District law banning "high-capacity" ammunition magazines is gunning for a private citizen, throwing the book at him for possessing, wait for it.... ONE shotgun shell. Oh, and, by the way, it was a SPENT shotgun shell.

Richard Stengel left the managing-editor job at Time magazine to work full-time at the State Department for his hero Barack Obama. But not long before he left, he was telling staff to accept a severance package or be laid off.

Jim McElhatton of The Washington Times reports that these budget cuts “didn't extend to the more than quarter-million-dollar bonus that Time had doled in 2012 out to Mr. Stengel on top of his $700,000 base salary, records obtained by The Washington Times show.” Don't liberal journalists usually think of this as Republican behavior? Is this an Oliver Stone movie come to life?

Washington Times, Former Reporter Sue Obama's Homeland Security Department Over House Raid

The Washington Times and one of its former reporters, Audrey Hudson, sued the Department of Homeland Security on Thursday, accusing federal agents of illegally seizing the newspaper’s reporting materials during the execution of a search warrant in an unrelated case.

In a motion filed in federal court, the plaintiffs asked a judge to force the federal agency to return all reporting files and documents it seized from Hudson’s home office during a raid in early August.

Charles Hurt: Obama and the Media Think ‘Government Should Be God’

Washington Times columnist Charles Hurt wrote a piece Tuesday claiming that cancer survivor Edie Littlefield Sundby losing her health insurance as a result of ObamaCare proved former Alaska governor Sarah Palin’s point regarding death panels.

Hurt took this position further with Newsmax TV’s Steve Malzberg Wednesday saying that President Obama and the media think “government should be God” (video follows with transcript and commentary):

Networks Ignore Obama Team's Latest Attack on Journalist -- Pre-Dawn Raid on Washington Times Reporter

 All three networks, so far, have skipped the latest example of the Obama administration's aggressive attacks on journalists, this time against a former Washington Times reporter who in 2005 exposed the scant number of flights being protected by Homeland Security. On August 6, 2013, agency officials showed up at Audrey Hudson's house at 4:30 in the morning. With a warrant for an unrelated, minor charge, they raided her home and took private notes detailing sources.

According to an October 25 article on the case, "The warrant, a copy of which was obtained by The Times, offered no specific permission to seize reporting notes or files." The reporters at ABC, CBS and ABC have ignored the plight of their fellow journalist. However, Hudson appeared on Fox News to discuss the case. Real Story host Gretchen Carlson explained, "A conservative reporter saying the feds in a pre-dawn raid took her files while searching her home for guns, including a toy potato gun."
