In a contest for the most consistent media fool of the year, Bloomberg's Mark Halperin would be an early favorite to take the top prize for 2015.
This year, Halperin has already had at least three instances of outrageous hackery. As will be seen, for sheer hypocrisy, his most recent is arguably his worst.
When they can't go directly after something a Republican or conservative candidate says, the establishment press attempts to make a big deal out of dumb things their aides utter or publish.
Leftist apparatchiks usually have no such worries. The latest example of an item which would be prominently in the news if a Republican or conservative had written something equally dense comes from Lanny Davis, longtime Clinton family apologist and career Democratic Party hack. In a column appearing at the Hill, Davis whined about the supposedly awful "media frenzy" which occurred two weeks ago at a Hillary Clinton event with supposedly "everyday Americans" in Hampton, New Hampshire. Davis compared the travails and indignities the poor, put-upon Mrs. Clinton suffered to ... well, readers will see who after the jump (bolds are mine):
TBS host Conan O'Brien took a new comedic shot at Hillary Clinton in a Wednesday post on Twitter – specifically, six-figure speaking fees that the former first lady charges; and, along with her husband's speaking engagements, has netted the couple $30 million in 16 months. O'Brien wrote, "I'd love to have @HillaryClinton as a guest on the show, but I can't afford her speaking fee."
Tip for retailers: If you’re trying to make money disrespecting the American Flag – especially on Memorial Day Weekend – just hope James Woods doesn’t hear about. Or, for that matter, thousands of other patriots on Twitter.
PacSun, a national clothing retailer aimed at teens and young adults was selling a black t-shirt with a graphic of the American flag upside down in stores and online this past Memorial Day weekend. A woman saw the display at her local Pacific Sunwear store in Foley, Alabama, and posted it to Facebook where it went viral. This elicited a strong reaction from others calling for a boycott on the retailer for this insensitivity, particularly on a patriotic holiday.
When it comes to taking questions from representatives of the legacy media, Hillary Clinton has been making herself rather scarce, and Daily Kos founder and publisher Markos Moulitsas thinks that’s just peachy.
“The day when the political media was instrumental in getting a candidate's message out is over,” wrote Kos in a Thursday post. “Candidates now have myriad vehicles to communicate their message straight to the voters without having it wrung through the old media's filter…So yes, if you're Hillary Clinton, you damn right ignore the dinosaur press corps. Fuck them.”
On Tuesday, the Washington Post's Janell Ross spotlighted a Twitter post attacking Sarah Palin, as she forwarded the left's narrative about a supposed double standard between coverage of black violence and the recent shootings involving biker gangs in Waco, Texas. The Tweet included a photo of Palin at the 2011 Rolling Thunder event in Washington, DC, which honors America's fallen members of the military, and bemoaned how "radical white politicians coddle these thugs." The Washington Post's Twitter account included the picture when they promoted Ross's item.
On Tuesday's New Day, CNN's Michaela Pereira and Alisyn Camerota heralded the first Twitter conversation between President Obama and former President Bill Clinton. Pereira touted how Obama "has finally joined Twitter" (despite pointing out his previous @BarackObama name). Camerota later gushed over the exchange: "That's cute!"
The folks at MSNBC exhibited a sick sense of "humor" on Friday.
As Gateway Pundit's Kristinn Taylor reported Friday afternoon, the network posted "a video to MSNBC’s Facebook page that mocks police over a criminal dragging a police officer by a car as he attempted to flee ..." The post asked the following question, which was also tweeted: "Does it count as a police chase if you take the cop along for the ride?"
On Saturday, the Twitter account of CNN Politics posted a cartoon portrayal of Hillary Clinton to promote an article about the Democratic presidential candidate's visit to her campaign headquarters in Brooklyn, New York. The caricature depicted Mrs. Clinton in "6 things Hillary could use in Brooklyn," and placed a cup of "artisinal (sic) coffee" in her hand, a floral print suit with matching "skinny pants," silver Birkenstocks, iPhone earbuds, and Warby Parker eyeglass frames.
B.B. King passed away Thursday night at the age of 89. The legendary musician is being remembered fondly by Twitter users the world over and, as such, is a trending topic on the social-media site today. But in an explanatory note for why he's trending, Twitter curators apparently had to make it all about President Obama.
If you take public transportation and use social media on a mobile device, beware of rubbernecking feminists.
Specifically, beware Guardian columnist Jessica Valenti. Some poor guy had the misfortune to be sitting next to her while checking his Twitter feed on the subway in New York yesterday. And just like that, average straphanger became “passive sexist.”
CNN's Chris Cuomo made an eyebrow-raising argument about the First Amendment in a Wednesday post on Twitter. Cuomo replied to a post that decried that "too many people are trying to say hate speech (isn't equal to) free speech," and claimed that "it doesn't. hate speech is excluded from protection. don't (sic) just say you love the constitution...read it."
