Richard Stengel left the managing-editor job at Time magazine to work full-time at the State Department for his hero Barack Obama. But not long before he left, he was telling staff to accept a severance package or be laid off.

Jim McElhatton of The Washington Times reports that these budget cuts “didn't extend to the more than quarter-million-dollar bonus that Time had doled in 2012 out to Mr. Stengel on top of his $700,000 base salary, records obtained by The Washington Times show.” Don't liberal journalists usually think of this as Republican behavior? Is this an Oliver Stone movie come to life?

The tragic shooting death of Renisha McBride in the Detroit suburb of Dearborn Heights is causing the usual liberal sociological analysis about how America hates blackness, and nothing has changed in fifty (or maybe eighty) years. On the Al Sharpton radio show, David A. Wilson of NBC-owned The Grio.com equated America in 2013 with the days when blacks in the segregated South carried a Negro Motorist Green Book for safe travel in the 1930s.

Time’s Ideas blog turned to Noliwe Rooks, Cornell associate professor in "Africana Studies and Feminist, Gender, and Sexuality Studies," for an article titled: “Renisha McBride and Evolution of Black-Female Stereotype: Why are black women seen as more threatening, more masculine and less in need of help? Because they're not being seen as women at all”. She turned to MSNBC host Melissa Harris-Perry for expertise:

"[T]here is a danger that the Obama Administration will be remembered as not even good enough for government work," if President Obama doesn't step up his game, argued liberal Time magazine columnist Joe Klein in his October 30 piece, "Buckpasser."

"Firing for cause doesn’t seem to exist in the Obama Administration," groused the columnist, lamenting that "few have paid the price for the Administration’s errors." But before we congratulate Klein too much for getting tough on Obama, let's be perfectly clear, Klein thinks administrative incompetence is the fundamental problem, not that ObamaCare is itself fatally-flawed in its design to begin with:

Proving there's never too small a protest to be newsworthy to the Left, Katy Steinmetz of Time magazine reported "On Monday, protesters marched through the streets of San Francisco carrying pictures funnyman Jimmy Kimmel's face - with a Hitler mustache drawn above his lip and a swastika by his side. More than 100 people, largely Asian Americans, were still fuming about a skit that aired on Kimmel's late-night show earlier this month."

Kimmel and ABC were apologizing for a shutdown-mocking skit that aired on October 16, in which Kimmel sat down with school kids to talk politics. When asked what should be done about America's debts to China, a boy replied that one solution might be to "kill everyone in China." (The video can be seen here.) Kimmel chuckled and said, "That's an interesting idea." He jokingly asked a follow-up: "Should we allow the Chinese to live?"

Moments earlier, President Obama wrapped up a petulant, whiney Rose Garden harangue in which he defended ObamaCare while insisting no one was more frustrated by the botched roll-out than he was.
