So how did Politico break the George Stephanopoulos Clinton Foundation donations story? Actually they didn't break it at all. The story was shopped to Politico after the Washington Free Beacon made inquiries to ABC News about Stephanopoulos' contributions to the Clinton Foundation. Apparently ABC News thought Politico would offer more favorable coverage so they leaked the story to Politico. However, to his great credit, Politico writer Jack Shafer not only acknowledged the crucial role of the Free Beacon but was also highly critical of ABC News for this tactic.

ABC's George Stephanopoulos acknowledged his tens of thousands of dollars of donations to the Clinton Foundation in a Thursday interview with Politico's Dylan Byers. Byers reported that "Stephanopoulos...said that, contrary to earlier reports, he has given a total of $75,000 to the Clinton Foundation." The Good Morning America anchor also announced that "he will not moderate the ABC News-sponsored Republican primary debate in February after failing to disclose those contributions."

Love her or hate her, Pamela Geller has been getting a lot of buzz with the fallout of her "Draw Muhammad" contest. Apparently, the people at Politico are shocked that Fox News is living up to its “Fair and Balanced” slogan, claiming that the network personalities “…have seemingly been at odds all week over Pamela Geller.” Oh my. Two different views – that’s almost unheard of!
They even allowed Geraldo to say "every time I see her on television, I want to take a shower."

Undermining most of what the business press has done to try to portray the post-recession U.S. economy as performing adequately under President Barack Obama, Bill Daley, Obama’s former chief of staff, told CNBC today that Hillary Clinton "can’t run as the third term of Barack Obama economically," because the recovery has been "uneven" and has only benefited "a small slice" of U.S. households.

Recently, Pierce found more fuel for his ire, a Politico story that to his disgust 1) merely hinted, rather than stated, that Scott Walker is an “unprincipled scoundrel,” and 2) virtually endorsed Walker’s “fundamental mendacity” as long as it’s effective -- in other words, if it helps him to “lie his way into the presidency.”
Pierce added that Walker’s shiftiness won’t matter to the GOP base, which “is filled with crazoids, Bible-bangers, and people with short-wave radios for brains. All they know is that Walker knuckled all the people of whom The Base is terrified. The only way Walker's bone-deep dishonesty can hurt him is if the people who stoke the plutocratic engine of the party believe that it might make him a loser. So far, they seem quite happy with the way he's done business for them.”

Politico and other websites are attempting to create another example of Rand Paul getting angry at journalists. The headline at Politico blared, "Rand Paul walks out of Guardian interview." When one looks at the footage, however, it's clearly a case of Paul completing an interview and leaving. Talking to reporter Paul Lewis of the liberal Guardian newspaper, Rand Paul informed, "I got time for one more question."

Sarah Wheaton touted the new "gender-neutral" bathroom at the White House as "the latest in a series of symbolic steps the Obama administration has taken to work the priorities of the LGBT community into its broader themes of inclusiveness and tolerance" in a Thursday item on Politico.com. Wheaton played up how "the newly designated restroom is an example of how the administration has been advancing the discussion by raising the profile of transgender issues, an area of debate that is especially hotly contested right now."

Politico surveyed a "bipartisan group of key activists, operatives and thought leaders in New Hampshire and Iowa" to reveal "grave concerns about Cruz’s electability." A "bipartisan" group? Does this mean that Politico actually consulted Democrats to weigh in on Ted Cruz's changes in the early primaries? Yeah, there is an "unbiased" group for you. However, the really significant news from the Politico article written by James Hohmann comes deep into the story after many paragraphs of unrelenting Cruz bashing where it is revealed that "Nearly two-thirds of Iowa Republican insiders believe Cruz can win the caucuses."
