On Friday afternoon President Obama held is annual end-of-year press conference, and following the event the folks at MSNBC eagerly cheered on the president’s performance.
During MSNBC’s post-press conference coverage, Chuck Todd, NBC News Political Director and moderator of Meet the Press, proclaimed that Obama looked “incredibly strong” and was “a president who feels as if he's earned the right to have some swagger.”
On Tuesday, former Republican Governor of Florida Jeb Bush announced that he is considering running for president in 2016 and that night liberal Washington Post columnist E.J. Dionne predictably had a field day with the announcement. Appearing on MSNBC’s The Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell on Tuesday night, Dionne proclaimed “the irony here is, it`s almost a delicious irony, is that Jeb Bush, if he runs, maybe a change agent in the Republican Party.”
On Saturday night, Senator Mary Landrieu (D-La.) lost her bid for reelection to Congressman Bill Cassidy (R-La.) by nearly 12 points and some liberals decided to blame her defeat on white racists who hate President Obama. Appearing on MSNBC’s The Rundown with Jose Diaz-Balart on Monday morning, Aisha Moodie-Mills of the Center for American Progress insisted that “the reality, and every single poll shows this, is that Democrats have completely lost the south because white people are running away from Barack Obama and this African-American man who is occupying the White House.”

Next time you're assembling a criminal defense team, remember to forget Melissa Harris-Perry. On her MSNBC show today, MH-P commented on the news that authorities are considering charges against Michael Brown's stepfather Louis Head, who on the night the grand jury declined to indict, jumped on a car and implored the crowd "burn this mother------ down! Burn this b--ch down!" Numerous buildings were thereafter torched.
Argued Harris-Perry: "arson and looting . . . are not necessarily violence." She added that those crimes should bear a "legal difference" from violence against "bodies." Even if you accept Harris-Perry's premise [I would argue that arson, which brings the real risk of endangering lives, is violent], so what? Assault isn't as bad as murder, either. That doesn't mean you don't prosecute the former, only that the punishment must fit the crime.
Signing up at for Ready for Hillary today [wanting to receive their emails], I felt a bit guilty, having to pledge my support in order to do so. But on reflection, indeed I might support Hillary . . . should the Republican ticket be Elizabeth Warren/Bernie Sanders.
But not every Dem or MSM member [but I repeat myself] is so eager to jump on the Hillary haywagon. Take Krystal Ball. On today's Up with Steve Kornacki, MSNBC-regular and former Virginia Dem congressional candidate Ball praised Jim Webb, who recently formed a presidential exploratory committee, as "authentic" and someone who "cares about issues." Ball said that represents a "stark contrast from the very carefully packaged and branded Clinton image." Ouch.
It would seem that not everyone on the left side of the political spectrum has a tolerant attitude towards Hispanics, if a segment on Wednesday's The Last Word on MSNBC is any indication. Hours before President Obama is expected to take executive action to legalize millions of Latin American illegal immigrants, guest Anita Freeman blamed the "very high Latino population" for California's failure to legalize euthanasia, as they "seem to go with [the] Catholic religion."
Comedy gold! As the co-founder of the Daily Show, Lizz Winstead might be a funny lady. But what she came up with today was surely an unintentional laugh line. Appearing on Joy Reid's MSNBC show this afternoon, Winstead blamed Wendy Davis' impending thrashing in her race for Governor of Texas on . . . "redistricting."
Lizz, last time we looked, there is no districting—"re" or otherwise—when it comes to statewide races. The entire state is one big district that gets to vote for Governor. Oh, and for good measure, Lizz laid the rest of the blame on "the media." Right. In a state where the major newspaper in three of the four largest cities have endorsed Davis.
"Well, it is Friday night." That was Al Sharpton's sheepish way of excusing the not-suitable-for-network-TV line that a guest had just uttered on this evening's Politics Nation. Australian satirist Josh Zepps' zinger came during a discussion of a video ad in which young girls drop repeated f-bombs, supposedly in furtherance of feminism.
The ad was produced by a clothing company trying to cash in with t-shirts bearing PC messages against sexism and racism. Zinged Zepps: "I'm offended by the shamelessness of the cheap ploy of the people that got them to do it . . . There's something about this company that rubs me the wrong way. They sell t-shirts for men that say 'This is What a Feminist Looks Like.'" Read the racy rest of Zepps' comment after the jump.
Last week, Wendy Davis, the Democratic Party candidate for governor of Texas, aired a controversial ad attacking her opponent, Republican Attorney General Greg Abbott, depicting him as an empty wheelchair who had turned his back on disabled people in Texas. Despite MSNBC doing everything it could to promote Ms. Davis, her latest attack ad appeared indefensible for the “Lean Forward” network. On Sunday morning, an entire panel on Up w/ Steve Kornacki condemned the Davis ad, with liberal columnist Michael Tomasky declaring “this makes liberals squirm in their chairs.”
Melissa Harris-Perry proudly portrays her MSNBC show as "Nerdland." But has it devolved from a cozy academic coffee klatsch for lefties into something else?
To discuss the issue of relations between police and black Americans, with the backdrop of Ferguson and a shooting this week in St. Louis, Harris-Perry had as a member of her panel Mychal Denzel Smith. On the one hand, Denzel Smith would appear, as a writer for The Nation, to fit the Nerdland bill. But a review of his Twitter feed reveals that two days ago Denzel Smith tweeted: 'F---.The.Police." And late last month he tweeted "I'm for prison abolition."
MSNBC's Joy Reid set aside nearly six minutes of air time on Wednesday's The Reid Report to letting homosexual activists Larry Kramer and Dan Savage boast about their longtime involvement in the far-left LGBT movement. Reid gave Kramer a platform to wax ecstatic about his founding of the radical group ACT-UP, as well as boost his play/movie The Normal Heart. Savage hyped his It Gets Better Project, and sang the praises of Kramer during the segment
With the 2014 midterm elections just five weeks away, MSNBC’s Ronan Farrow thought it was the perfect time to give a state Democrat a six minute platform to promote her campaign. On Tuesday afternoon, Farrow spoke to Leticia Van de Putte of Texas, the Democratic nominee for Lieutenant Governor, and provided her with unchallenged airtime to hit her Republican opponent on numerous issues including, in the words of the MSNBC host, his “harsh rhetoric on undocumented immigrants.”
