MSNBC's Al Sharpton Calls for DOJ to Take Over Police Across America

Just when you think you've heard it all from the Rev. Al Sharpton, who combines his liberal activism with hosting the weekday PoliticsNation program afternoons on the MSNBC cable channel, he comes up with another absurd demand that leaves people of all races shaking their heads in disbelief.

His latest outrageous comment came on Thursday, when Sharpton met with Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, Baltimore's Democratic mayor, and other local officials to address the issues behind the riots and looting that took place after 25-year-old Freddie Gray died while in police custody for allegedly possessing a switchblade on April 12.

Of all the rotten reasons not to execute Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, we'll give the booby prize to the one offered by Paul Raushenbush, a HuffPo religion editor and ordained American Baptist minister. On today's Melissa Harris-Perry show, Raushenbush imagined that in twenty years, Tsarnaev might become "a spokesperson for reconciling Islam with America. We don't know what this life is going to lead to." Anything's possible, but surely Tsarnaev's sentence should not be based on this sort of idle speculation.  

What made Raushenbush's argument particularly galling was his statement that "the idea of ending any life for any reason is for me just not something I want done in my name."  I Googled, and sure enough Raushenbush supports abortion rights. You don't want "any life" ended in your name?  You don't know what a life that is ended might lead to, Rev. Raushenbush?

WashPost Reporter Criticizes ‘Mean Spirited’ Kansas Welfare Law

On Saturday, MSNBC’s Alex Witt hosted Washington Post reporter Elahe Izadi to blast a new Kansas law that would limit what items welfare recipients could purchase using their taxpayer benefits. Izadi asserted many call the law “mean spirited” and then touted how “some advocates feel like lawmakers are basically saying the poor can't be trusted to manage their own money."

I have a sneaky feeling that MSNBC political correspondent Kasie Hunt isn't a registered Republican. Even so, there's little doubt that at least for now Marco Rubio is winning the Kasie Hunt primary.

In successive appearances on the Up with Steve Kornacki and Melissa Harris-Perry shows this morning, Hunt made clear that Rubio was her standout in the Republican field assembled this weekend in New Hampshire. On "Up" Hunt called Rubio "the strongest candidate in telling a story . . . really somebody to watch."  A bit later on MH-P, Hunt hailed Rubio as the person who "stood out to me the most."

MSNBC's Harris-Perry, Husband Owe $70,000 in Back Federal Taxes

Al Sharpton isn't the only MSNBC host who has a problem with paying taxes. Michael Hewlett of North Carolina's Winston-Salem Journal reported on Wednesday that Melissa Harris-Perry and her husband owe "about $70,000 in delinquent taxes, according to a notice filed in Forsyth County Hall of Justice earlier this month." The IRS placed a tax lien on the couple as a result.

During her MSNBC’s Lean Forward on April 11, host Melissa Harris-Perry questioned Physicians for Reproductive Health’s Dr. Anne Davis on a North Carolina bill that would prohibit the “basic core skill” of abortion at state medical schools. The two described abortion education as a “core part” or a “core skill” five times during the five-minute seventeen-second interview.

Imagine you're a Cuban who has somehow managed to catch the cablecast of Melissa Harris-Perry's MSNBC show today.  The topic is President Obama's opening toward Cuba. You're scraping by on the average Cuban monthly salary of $20/month and are thrilled at the prospect of getting a better-paying job if and when American tourists start coming in numbers.

Then suddenly you hear Harris-Perry fretting that there could be a "downside" for Cuba in letting in those American tourists.  They could be a "plague" for Cuba. Impose their cultural "hegemony."  !Ay caramba!

Your "conversation about race" idea has hit a bit of a brick wall among those you seem to believe are on your side — unless your idea of a "conversation" is talking down to anyone who doesn't buy into the idea of "diversity" uber alles, or that this country's founding and history have been predominantly noble.

On Melissa Harris-Perry's show this weekend, the host resoundingly approved when a guy who said that his mission in life is to "get white people to talk about whiteness" suggested that baristas at Starbucks should write “White supremacy has been the organizing principle of America since it was founded” on customers' coffee cups.

Speaking to MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell, on Wednesday night Washington Post columnist Eugene Robinson attacked the GOP for sending a letter to Iran expressing their opposition to a proposed nuclear deal between the United States and Iran. Robinson argued the Iranians “sound like a voice of reason in this whole thing by saying, you know, this whole thing is silly, we're not paying any attention to it and nobody else should.”

'The Only Person Who Could Beat Hillary Clinton Is Michelle Obama'

Was he serious? It certainly wasn't obvious that conservative commentator Ben Domenech was kidding when on today's Up With Steve Kornacki he said that "the only person I think who could beat Hillary Clinton is Michelle Obama."

Domenech's comment came during a segment devoted to the subject of who might jump into the race should Hillary decide not to run.  The mere fact that there was such a segment suggests that the controversy over Hillary's email might not be the "a lot about nothing" that some claim.
