Ed Schultz Goes From Supporting Keystone to Comparing It to 'Vietnam'

MSNBC viewers in February were treated to a rare sight: An anchor disagreeing with the accepted liberal position on an issue. Ed Schultz publicly came out in support of the Keystone XL oil pipeline. On the February 5 program, he lectured progressives to "confront reality" and support construction. Well, that didn't last long. On March 4, Schultz compared Keystone to Vietnam and wondered if it was as "bad." [See video below. MP3 audio here.]

The host began his program by recounting how protests against the Vietnam war started small and grew to an estimated 500,000 in 1969. Schultz compared, "Is the pipeline that bad?" After noting that only 400 people came out to rally against Keystone, Schultz connected, "I don't know what it's going to take to stop the pipeline and get the message to the President of the United States." With a picture of Vietnam protests behind him, he concluded, "But for reference, this is what we had to do to stop war." 

Unhinged Ed Schultz Rants: Arizona Bill Is a 'License to Discriminate'

The frothing rage against Arizona's religious liberty legislation continued on Wednesday's Ed Show. Ed Schultz, who on Tuesday insisted that the bill would lead to crazed, gun-toting Arizonians going on shooting rampages, followed up by sneering that this was the "most discriminatory law that I think that we have seen a state body come forward with." (More discriminatory than state slave laws?) 

Schultz railed, "The bottom line is, Senate Bill 1062 is a license to discriminate." [See video below. MP3 audio here.] Given the anchor's sycophantic love for Barack Obama, it's unsurprising that he somehow related Jan Brewer's famous finger pointing at the President. Angry that the governor hasn't made a decision on the law, he fumed, "It's up to the woman who pointed the finger right in the face, arrogantly. Now we're finding out how arrogant she really is." 

Ed Schultz: Religious Protection Bill Is a License for Gun-Crazy Arizonans to Kill

On Tuesday, MSNBC anchor Ed Schultz smeared Arizonians as gun-crazed maniacs salivating over a license to kill. The Ed Show host attacked legislation designed to protect the religious liberty of the state's business community. Even though the bill [SB 1062] deals with those who, for example, might not want to supply cakes for a gay wedding, Schultz slimed, "This bill gives business owners the legal room to say 'get out of my store, because you got a turban on.' I just don't think it's about the gay and lesbian community." 

Liberal Congressman Jim McDermott piled on, comparing, "If you remember back in 2001, we had a Sikh, a man with a turban, beaten almost to death." Schultz connected, "Of course, we know how they love firearms in Arizona. I mean, I think this opens the door for confrontation..." [See video below. MP3 audio here.]

MSNBC's Ed Schultz, Who Called Laura Ingraham a 'Slut,' Huffs About Right-Wing Vulgarities

MSNBC, the cable network where Martin Bashir suggested someone should defecate down Sarah Palin's throat, the network that features a host who trashed Laura Ingraham as a "slut," has developed an aversion to vulgarity. Well, vulgarities that are aimed at liberals. On Tuesday's Ed Show, Ed Schultz highlighted a dinner of wealthy businessmen in New York.

According to Schultz, the attendees "perform variety shows that include jokes that, of course, we couldn't share with you here on the Ed Show." The outraged anchor complained, "Let's see, there was a sexist joke about Hillary Clinton and a homophobic joke made about former Congressman Barney Frank." [See video below. MP3 audio here.] This is the same Schultz who assailed "bastard," "dirthole" conservatives.

How much of a liberal cheerleader is MSNBC's Ed Schultz? On Monday's Ed Show, the host was asked this question by a viewer: "Who is your favorite President?" Rather than answer with liberal heroes like Franklin Roosevelt, Lyndon Johnson or John F. Kennedy, Schultz immediately responded, "President Obama." [See video below. MP3 audio here.]

The cable anchor enthused, "I respect him immensely for what he has done with the economy, which I think absolutely is amazing." Schultz insisted, "He's been obstructed more than any other president in American history."

Ed Schultz Slimes Grover Norquist: May Be ‘Race Baiting’ With Anti-Obama Union Ads

It wouldn’t be MSNBC if one of the cable hosts didn’t smear a conservative as racist. On Wednesday, Ed Schultz hinted that Grover Norquist, the head of Americans for Tax Reform, might be “race baiting” by placing ads warning about the impact of unionization.

Schultz was talking to Democratic Congressman Steve Cohen over possible unionization of a Volkswagen plant in Chattanooga, Tennessee.  Cohen slammed signs put up by Norquist’s group, complaining, “The billboards are offensive, the whole idea of keeping people from earning decent wages.” Because the signs mention Barack Obama, The Ed Show anchor zeroed in: “You think Grover Norquist is race baiting? You think he knows the climate?” [See video below. MP3 audio here.] This was too much even for Cohen.

MSNBC Completely Ignores Latest ObamaCare Delay in Prime Time, Spends Nearly One-Fourth On Chris Christie

At 4:57 on Monday afternoon, MSNBC’s Alex Wagner hyped “Breaking news from the Treasury Department. The White House has announced a second delay to part of the Affordable Care Act’s employer mandate. Details on that are next.”  But the next “details” did not come for 12 and a half hours at 5:30 a.m. Tuesday morning during MSNBC’s Way Too Early broadcast.

In between, MSNBC ran 9 full stories on Governor Chris Christie (R-NJ) and the “Bridgegate” scandal surrounding his administration. Rachel Maddow, devoted nearly half of her broadcast, 29 minutes to the Christie scandal. The rest of her primetime colleagues similarly couldn’t be bothered to inform their viewers of the latest ObamaCare delay, despite Wagner’s promise: “details on that are next.”

Ed Schultz Morphs Abraham Lincoln Into Barack Obama

Liberal MSNBC anchor Ed Schultz on Monday compared Barack Obama to Abraham Lincoln. In the opening of The Ed Show, an on-screen graphic morphed a picture of the historic Republican president into the modern day Democrat. In the background, an American flag can be seen. Schultz's show opens are often extremely over-the-top, featuring rock music and movie clips. The cable anchor began by trashing Republicans for not trusting the President on securing the border. After clips of John Boehner and Paul Ryan appeared, the Obama/Lincoln morph appeared. No comparison is too absurd for Schultz. Recently, he linked the President to Superman, George Washington and touted approval by God.

Ed Schultz to Sandra Fluke: Rush Limbaugh 'Did You a Favor'

On Thursday's Ed Show, MSNBC's Ed Schultz gleefully reminded guest Sandra Fluke of when Rush Limbaugh called her a "slut," but completely ignored his own suspension from MSNBC for saying the same of Laura Ingraham.

"I think Limbaugh actually did you a favor by putting you out there like that," Schultz poured on the praise. "I hope you understand where I'm going on that. I mean exposure is very important. People now look to you in a big, big way for leadership on some very pertinent issues."

One of my favorite memories from watching MSNBC -- not that there are many -- came a few years back when Rachel Maddow in full-blown, arms-waving smarm insisted that the Constitution does not have a preamble. "That would be the Declaration of Independence," Maddow declared emphatically.

It's one thing for an MSNBC pundit to publicly reveal her ignorance of the Constitution (and Maddow made the gaffe, not incidentally, in response to a similar one by House Speaker John Boehner). It's quite another for one of her MSNBC colleagues to reveal his contempt for the Constitution. That's what Ed Schultz did on "The Ed Show" last night. (Video after the jump)

Ed Schultz Supports Keystone Pipeline, Lectures Liberal Audience to 'Confront Reality'

Liberal MSNBC anchor Ed Shultz incurred the wrath of his left-wing audience when he publicly came out in support of the construction of the Keystone pipeline. The host on Wednesday took the step of reading angry tweets on the Ed Show and responding to them. Aware that he was daring to leave the liberal reservation on this one issue, Schultz called the pipeline "controversial" and began, " Now, I know a lot of my viewers are surprised at my position on this." The anchor quoted one tweet from a viewer who demanded, "We need to stop all oil and gas extraction." Schultz retorted, "Well, my response to that is the hard cold truth is the United States is an oil and gas dependent country and we're going to be for the foreseeable future." In the unfamiliar role of fending off liberal rage, he continued, "And I think it really is a disservice to the conversation and the debate to take an all-or-nothing approach to this." In a final jab at his critics, Schultz concluded, "We're not really confronting reality here."

MSNBC Lionizes 'Action Hero' Obama as Superman, Washington Crossing the Delaware, and Uncle Sam

MSNBC airs a bizarre video montage at the beginning of every episode of The Ed Show, but the program was especially outlandish on Monday and Wednesday, depicting President Obama as a series of larger-than-life figures. The liberal network first portrayed the chief executive as Superman standing on top of the White House, and later placed the Democrat's head on George Washington's body in the famed painting of the crossing of the Delaware River.

Two days later, The Ed Show lead segment repeatedly showed a graphic depicting the President as Uncle Sam, holding a pen in his boxing glove-covered hand: [video below the jump]
