When liberals want to persuade other liberals of their authenticity, they routinely resort to vulgarity. Chock it up as one of the innumerable odious legacies of the '60s.
Charles "Charlie" Pierce, an oft-constipated scribe for the once great magazine known as Esquire, went on a particularly demented rant yesterday in response to the verdict in the Zimmerman trial.
On her Sunday morning programming live from the Essence Festival in New Orleans, MSNBC host Melissa Harris-Perry, the namesake of her show, entertained a panel of African-American leaders to discuss several contemporary issues including the recent 5-4 decision handed down by the Supreme Court that declared Section 4 of the Voting Rights Act unconstitutional because it used, to quote Chief Justice Roberts, “a formula based on 40-year-old facts having no logical relation to the present day.” Harris-Perry scoffed at Roberts’ decision and claimed that this decision caused the advent of a “third reconstruction” in America. Clearly, this is a ridiculous comparison. The current social climate and culture of our country does not even hold a candle to the kind of suppression of rights that took place during Reconstruction or even during the civil rights movement, or so-called Second Reconstruction.
The liberal chorus at MSNBC has made it a relentless mission to attack Republicans as unconcerned about the poor. Evening hosts Chris Matthews and Chris Hayes are just two recent examples, the former claiming the GOP “spent months...trying to keep black people and poor people from voting,” and the latter slamming Republicans for an “anti-food stamp jihad.”
The hypocrisy of these attacks may shine through this weekend, as the network broadcasts live from the Essence Festival in New Orleans, from July 5 through July 7. Now, the Essence Festival’s primary purpose is to “celebrate black culture, music and people,” a mission no one could or should criticize. But the Lean Forward network is choosing to promote their GOP-bashing agenda – which includes criticism for Republicans who want to “tear down the poor” – from a festival where the most affordable tickets are currently more than $60 per ticket, per night.
On Saturday's Melissa Harris-Perry show, MSNBC host Harris-Perry ranted against Texas Governor Rick Perry, tagging him as the "evil archenemy" of "super-heroine" Wendy Davis, and comparing the Republican governor to the Snidely Whiplash cartoon character known for leaving a woman tied down in the path of an oncoming train. Harris-Perry:
On Saturday's Melissa Harris-Perry show, host Harris-Perry called the rhetoric from abortion opponents "villainous" as she fretted over Tennessee Republican Representative Marsha Blackburn being a woman who is pushing a House bill banning abortion.
And panel members Irin Carmon of Salon.com and Aisha Moodie-Mills of the left-wing Center for American Progress both saw "misgyny" in the measure. After a clip of Rep. Blackburn promoting the bill, MSNBC host Harris-Perry responded:
On her MSNBC show this morning, Melissa Harris-Perry vilified John Boehner as a "super-villain," a "bad guy" and "pitiful." His sin? Failing to pass the farm bill.
So who is MH-P's idea of a good Speaker? Why, Nancy Pelosi, of course. Harris-Perry praised Pelosi as "one of the most effective leaders in the House's history." So effective that, as a result of her disastrous leadership, Pelosi's Dem House caucus went down to crushing electoral defeat in 2010. View the video after the jump.
Governor Dan Malloy (D-Conn.) recently signed a bill preventing photos and videos of the Sandy Hook shooting victims from being released to the public. The bill had broad support from the victims’s families, and was the subject of a petition on change.org that gained over 100,000 signatures.
But MSNBC host Melissa Harris-Perry and her Sunday panel’s desire for gun control apparently trumps the concerns of these Newtown parents. Harris-Perry and all but one of her guests called on the parents to “break” the “evil of government” and release the photographs of their slain children to the public. Harris-Perry had spent part of her opening monologue decrying the politicization of photographs by “rabid anti-choice demonstrators” in the pro-life movement. But then Harris-Perry did just that with the December tragedy, asking:
Usually, MSNBC host Melissa Harris-Perry only toils for the Obama administration on the weekends. Last Friday, she worked overtime. On the May 31 edition of Al Sharpton’s PoliticsNation, Harris-Perry fawned over the Democrat-controlled 111th Congress, which sat for the first two years of President Obama’s first term, as the “most incredible legislative session in American history.”
Yes, this is the same left-wing legislature that placed burdensome regulations on the financial sector under Dodd-Frank and rammed ObamaCare down the nation’s throat. Unsurprisingly, the liberal host is just fine with aggressive, one-party rule in Washington – as long as it’s the Left’s agenda being supported.
Appearing as a guest on Sunday's Melissa Harris-Perry show on MSNBC, PBS's Christina Bellantoni labeled Virginia Republican gubernatorial nominee Ken Cuccinelli as "very conservative," but, when discussing presumptive Democratic nominee and former DNC chairman Terry McAuliffe, the PBS NewsHour political editor did not include a liberal ideological label.
Additionally, as she recounted Cuccinelli's history of opposing abortion, she euphemistically inserted the word "freedoms" as being what the Virginia attorney general and former state senator has a record of "fighting against." Discussing Cuccinelli and GOP lieutenant govenor nominee E. W. Jackson, Bellantoni asserted:
On Saturday's Melissa Harris-Perry show, MSNBC host Harris-Perry trashed Virginia Lieutenant Governor candidate E.W. Jackson as she took exception with some of his "pretty disgusting" conservative views, and ended up proclaiming that the thought of the African-American Republican winning in November "just makes me feel icky all over. Ewww."
The MSNBC host framed the segment as if she had written a letter to Jackson. She began on a juvenile note as she made fun of the "E.W." portion of his name, pronouncing it, "ewww," reciting:
As she appeared as a guest on Monday's All In with Chris Hayes show, MSNBC host Melissa Harris-Perry described the conservative "red" parts of her home state of Lousiana as "not thinking about or caring about the 10-year-old children in my neighborhood who are shot while walking down the street" as she and host Chris Hayes discussed a recent mass shooting at a parade in New Orleans and advocated more gun control.
After Hayes described two distinct perspectives on guns as being the background of people grew up hunting and the point of view of people who have been shot, Harris-Perry added:
Chris Hayes is what passes for a progressive intellectual at MSNBC.
Which makes his simple-minded and manifestly mistaken proposal that much more maddening. Making a peek-a-boo video-clip appearance on today's Melissa Harris-Perry's show, which focused on finding solutions to poverty in America, Hayes was seen holding up a hand-written sign with his solution, reading "Giving people money: It's actually that easy."
