CNN 'Reliable Sources' Guest Host Claims Calling Obama Racist Is Somehow Equivalent to Bashir's Sick Attack on Palin

Eric Deggans of National Public Radio sat in the guest-host chair on CNN's "Reliable Sources" show on Sunday, and pressed Amy Holmes of TheBlaze TV several times on how she should be more forgiving of Martin Bashir's outrageous remarks about Sarah Palin. First, he suggested, "Martin Bashir apologized for his comments. He reached out to the Palin family.Is there really a problem here? Or are competitors and partisan people try to make an issue being made out of something that has already passed?"

One doesn't have to be a partisan to suggest an on-air apology might seem like a weak punishment. Holmes cited that MSNBC removed David Shuster from the air (never to return) for suggesting Hillary Clinton "pimped out" her daughter Chelsea on the campaign trail. Baltimore Sun TV critic David Zurawik had some harsh words for MSNBC and NBC News Sunday in the wake of Martin Bashir’s vile comments about former Alaska governor Sarah Palin.

After accusing MSNBC of debasing “our civic and political conversation on cable TV,” Zurawik asked Fox News MediaBuzz host Howard Kurtz, “Where are people like Tom Brokaw and Chuck Todd who claim to speak for NBC News and the brand? As NewsBusters reported, MSNBC’s Martin Bashir apologized last week for truly vile comments he made about former Alaska governor Sarah Palin.

On Fox News Sunday, Palin accepted Bashir’s apology, but made it clear that the next time he or anyone in the media says such things about her, “I’d like them to go through say Todd first or one of my children” (video follows with transcript and absolutely no need for additional commentary):

During Wednesday night's edition of The O'Reilly Factor on the Fox News Channel, Bill O'Reilly slammed Martin Bashir for his vulgar comments about defecating and urinating on former Alaska governor Sarah Palin, and guest Howard Kurtz said it's “stunning” that MSNBC has yet to discipline its weekday afternoon anchor.

Even though Bashir apologized for his disgusting remarks on Monday, Kurtz -- who called him “sad, pathetic and disgusting” on Tuesday -- stated that the network should still have “fired his butt” or at least uttered “a single syllable” denouncing “this kind of vitriol” instead of “looking the other way.”

CNN Asks If Bashir Saying Palin Should Be Defecated on Wasn't Just a 'Rhetorical Point'

CNN's Chris Cuomo and Kate Bolduan cautioned against MSNBC suspending or firing host Martin Bashir for his latest broadside against Sarah Palin, on Thursday's New Day. Cuomo actually asked if he wasn't just trying to make a "rhetorical point" rather than be "hurtful" to Palin.

Bashir had clearly stated that Palin was "the outstanding candidate" to receive a certain punishment for slaves – defecating in their mouths – for her remarks on slavery. Despite the gravitas of his words CNN gave him some benefit of the doubt while ignoring his history of vile smears of Republicans, the worst of which is documented below.

During a discussion on the Martin Bashir program Wednesday, The Daily Caller's Matt Lewis decided he had simply had enough. Fellow panelist and Georgetown professor Dr. Michael Eric Dyson was holding forth about how President Obama's political opposition was grounded not in criticism of his ideology or his (lack of) leadership but, you guessed it, racism.

Fed up with conservatives constantly being insulted on MSNBC as racist for opposing the president, Lewis interrupted Dyson and took him to task for refusing to deal with the actual merits of President Obama's policies and job approval, both of which are underwater in recent polls. To that, Dyson angrily shot back that Lewis was trying to cash in on his "white privilege" to "silence a black man" on the issue of race. With no disciplinary action having been administered to Bashir by his superiors, conservative talk radio host Rush Limbaugh asked on his show Wednesday, "Let's say Dr. Krauthammer or Ted O'Baxter [Bill O'Reilly] would suggest that somebody do to Obama what Bashir suggested happen to Sarah Palin.
