The ever-escalating war between Donald Trump and Univision gives us a valuable glimpse at how the network advances convenient narratives throughout its various divisions. This particular instance is a higher-profile version of something we’ve seen before.

Presidential candidate Donald Trump is like the guy who takes out a Latin woman, showers her with compliments, and then calls her younger brother a pothead loser.

The recent agreement between the California state legislature and Governor Jerry Brown to open the state’s public healthcare program to children who are in the United States illegally received widespread praise on the principal national newscasts of Univision, Telemundo and MundoFox.

While Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal became the 13th Republican on Wednesday to join the 2016 Republican presidential field, the top English and Spanish-language network evening newscasts all but dodged Jindal’s decision by providing a total of 54 seconds across English networks ABC, CBS, and NBC. As for the Spanish-language networks, MundoFox and Telemundo ignored Jindal’s announcement completely while Univision aired an 18-second news brief.

As if the ties between the Hillary Clinton presidential campaign and Univision, the nation's most widely-viewed Spanish-language television network, weren't close enough, along comes Univision and Fusion star anchor Jorge Ramos announcing that his daughter, Paola, is now becoming a Hillary Clinton campaign aide.

The nation’s second largest Spanish-language network, Telemundo, was the only major network not to cover Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton’s long-awaited Q&A session with the news media in Iowa this week.

Strangely, during the course of the past month, Telemundo’s principal national evening newscasts have failed to even once inform its viewers about any of the controversies surrounding Clinton’s candidacy, including the former U.S. Secretary of State’s compliance with federal requirements and White House protocol for her e-mail communications, as well as potential conflicts of interest arising from donations from foreign governments and donors to the Clinton Foundation while she served as the nation’s chief diplomat.

Amanda Rentería, national political director of Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign, has received another cushy interview, this time at the hands of none other than Univision anchor Jorge Ramos.

Following on the heels of a puff piece on Telemundo, the six and a half minute interview with Rentería on Univision also failed to bring up the flurry of financial and ethical controversies swirling around Rentería’s candidate, in relation to the Clinton Foundation (including Univision’s own close ties to the Foundation).
