In a bizarre exchange, co-debate moderator Hugh Hewitt on Tuesday night pressed Ben Carson as to whether he was “tough” enough to kill thousands of children. Hewitt lectured, “We're talking about ruthless things tonight. Carpet bombing, toughness, war. And people wonder, could you do that?”

On today's Morning Joe, an incensed Joe Scarborough told Hugh Hewitt he was "full of it," and that "you owe me an apology."
Scarborough was steamed that Hewitt seemed to suggest that Joe was part of the "Manhattan-DC Beltway elite" that refused to cover Hillary's scandals. Scarborough said "I put my neck on the line every day here," covering Hillary and criticizing media bias.

Joe Scarborough swung a double-edged sword on today's Morning Joe, swiping simultaneously at his MSNBC colleague Chris Matthews and at radio host and debate panelist Hugh Hewitt. The subject was Marco Rubio, with Hewitt calling him "the most dynamic speaker the Republican party has seen ever, since Lincoln." "Since Lincoln," asked Scarborough incredulously—"do you have a tingle going up your leg?"
Scarborough said that rather than recalling Lincoln, "when I see Marco speaking, I'm seeing a guy that's running for student government." Interesting aside: Hewitt predicts that Republicans will have an open convention, with no candidate having wrapped up the nomination before the delegates get to Cleveland in July.

On Sunday’s Meet the Press, Washington Post columnist Kathleen Parker did her best to give Hillary Clinton the “benefit of the doubt” after she has flipped her position on a number of policy issues, most recently her sudden opposition to TPP. Parker acknowledged that Clinton would never admit to changing her positions for “political expedience” in order to satisfy Bernie Sanders' supporters, but she stressed that you “can give her the benefit of the doubt too.”

This NewsBuster is a paid subscriber and regular listener to Hugh Hewitt's podcasts, and believes that Hugh is the ablest conservative interviewer on radio. So it was surprising to see him serve as such a loyal CNN soldier on today's Morning Joe.
Hewitt, a member of the CNN panel at Wednesday's GOP debate, refused to complain about the paltry opportunities he was given to question the candidates. And defending the fact that Donald Trump had been given twice Scott Walker and Mike Huckabee's airtime, Hewitt said that while "unfortunate," Jake Tapper had done a "marvelous" job of allocating time. That was too much for Mika Brzezinski, who bluntly told Hewitt: "I guess you're probably uncomfortable being honest about this." Mika's skepticism is on vivid display in the screengrab.

On Sunday’s Meet the Press, NBC’s Tom Brokaw strongly criticized Hillary Clinton’s performance during her interview with colleague Andrea Mitchell, specifically her answers to why she decided to use a private e-mail server while Secretary of State. The newscast didn't even mention the former first lady during their 2016 election coverage. Instead, Scott Pelley played up how Donald Trump "seems to stumble a lot, but never seems to fall" – specifically, his confused answers on foreign policy during an interview with conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt. On Sunday’s State of the Union, CNN’s Van Jones accused those who oppose the Supreme Court's decision to ignore the normal legislative process on gay marriage of pushing “the old state’s rights rhetoric that was anti-civil rights rhetoric of the past than embracing the future.” Jones bemoaned that his “heart was broken” after he heard Mike Huckabee’s comments on the Supreme Court ruling especially because he “put more African-Americans in high position in office as governor than Bill Clinton did.”
