CNN's Chris Cuomo asserted that Jeb Bush "doesn't seem to be the new Republican" on Monday's New Day, after the former Florida governor voiced his support of traditional marriage during a recent interview on CBN. Cuomo later underlined that Bush is "going to have to figure out how to please the plurality" on the marriage issue, and added that "this is not a well-calculated move on that front."

On Monday's New Day on CNN, the New Yorker's Ryan Lizza asserted that there was no wrongdoing in former President Bill Clinton helping his brother-in-law, Tony Rodham, get a job with former DNC head Terry McAuliffe (who's now the governor of Virginia): "Bill Clinton was not in office. It doesn't seem to conflict with her [Hillary Clinton's] job as secretary of state. If Bill Clinton helped out the brother-in-law, I don't see that as a scandal."

The reliably liberal Politifact (through its Punditfact site) surprisingly took CNN’s New Day co-host Chris Cuomo took task on Thursday for his rather suspect claim on Twitter from Wednesday that “hate speech is excluded from protection” under the First Amendment. Through its Punditfact site, Politifact’s Lauren Carroll noted his numerous attempts to clarify his remarks and citations of case law, but still came to the conclusion that Cuomo’s original statement was “false.”

CNN's Chris Cuomo made an eyebrow-raising argument about the First Amendment in a Wednesday post on Twitter. CNN's Chris Cuomo warned a protester in Baltimore about a possible police overreaction on Wednesday's Anderson Cooper 360. Cuomo walked up to a line of demonstrators who were protesting the death of Freddie Gray, and underlined that the police would go after them: "You got to know: walking toward the cops in the middle of the street – they're going to come at you." When one of the protesters replied that they were going home, the journalist retorted, "Just be careful, because you know how they are."

On two occasions during CNN’s New Day on Friday, CNN personalities raised the often-used liberal argument that Republicans have “overplayed their hand” on a scandal with the latest being their handling of the allegations surrounding the Clinton Foundation. The first person to raise the point was CNN political commentator and NY1 host Errol Louis. Jeff Zeleny parroted a Clinton campaign talking point about there being no quid-pro-quo with the donations coming in while the uranium deal was taking place: “The big picture here is there's no huge smoking gun so far in this book as we know now.”

Cuomo asserted that "the Clinton book was widely dismissed – about the money that goes into the CGI [Clinton Global Initiative]. On Wednesday's New Day on CNN, a panel of journalists and pundits yucked it up over Hillary Clinton's recent incognito visit to a Chipotle restaurant in Ohio, and made light of her scandals. Maggie Haberman of the New York Times joked that Clinton "dominated Marco Rubio's rollout – which was a very impressive rollout – with pictures looking like she was robbing a Chipotle." Anchor John Berman cracked in reply that Haberman "just launched a Clinton scandal," with co-anchor Chris Cuomo adding, "Were they e-mailing about going into Chipotle?"

CNN's Chris Cuomo played defense for the Obama administration on Tuesday's New Day as he interviewed Senator Bob Corker on his proposed legislation to "give Congress a say on the Iran deal," as the anchor put it. Cuomo wondered, "How can they negotiate a deal if the Iran side of the table says – well, you really can't give me any assurances, because you have to go to your Congress after this? You know, that's a big...set of handcuffs."
