All three networks on Monday thrilled over the "historic" opening of a Cuban embassy in Washington D.C. ABC offered the friendliest coverage to the communist regime, completely avoiding any mention of the country's human rights crimes or of the protests outside the new embassy. Instead, ABC anchor David Muir marveled, "The historic moment. Fifty four years later, the Cuban flag flying in the U.S... We are just back from Washington tonight where history was made today." Despite getting a chance to talk to Cuba's foreign minister, he didn't pose any tough questions about oppression in Cuba. 

All three broadcast network evening newscasts on Monday had stories related to last week's spree shooting in Chattanooga that left four Marines and one sailor dead. But only CBS reported how the governors of seven states thus far are authorizing National Guardsmen to concealed-carry their own personal firearms while on state National Guard property.

After CBS’s Major Garrett sharply questioned President Obama about the fate of four Americans held captive in Iran during Wednesday's news conference, on Thursday’s CBS This Morning, rather than defend his colleague’s tough question, co-host Charlie Rose chose to ask if he had any regrets or “second thoughts" surrounding his actions.

On Tuesday, CBS This Morning sounded like members of the Obama administration during an interview with Carly Fiorina as its hosts repeatedly defended the newly agreed upon Iranian nuclear deal from criticsm. Throughout the discussion with the Republican presidential candidate, co-hosts Charlie Rose, Gayle King and fill-in host Jeff Glor offered up White House talking points in support of the Iranian deal without once expressing any skepticism surrounding the controversial deal.

Only on PBS would it be considered part of a Fourth of July celebration to have the editor of The New Yorker gush over Barack Obama’s most “progressive” accomplishments. It’s also quite like PBS to have this journalist conclude that he feels about Obama just like you would feel about  “your favorite ball team.”

The program was the late-night talk show Charlie Rose, and the gushiest moment from both Rose and New Yorker editor David Remnick came in celebrating Obama’s eulogy in Charleston for the late Clementa Pinckney, shot dead by a racist. They agreed this was an emotional pinnacle for the president, with Rose even saying it was “one of the great moments anyone has ever seen.” PBS, they suggest, is the channel for emotional restraint?
