Late Monday afternoon, the New York Daily News reported from sources that NBC News chief Andrew Lack is strongly in favor of bringing suspended NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams back from his six-month suspension. Ironically, a source told the newspaper that Lack has been blaming the news media in advocating for his exit while maintaining the belief that “viewers want” Williams “back.”

Surpise! Surprise! Another week and another Brian Williams fib uncovered. This one had to do with his reporting on the Arab Spring protests at Cario's Tahrir Square in February 2011. As reported by the New York Times, Williams claimed to Jon Stewart on the Daily Show to have been up close near pro-government forces on horseback and camels while they were whipping protesters. One problem: Brian Williams was actually delivering his report from a balcony near Tahrir Square.

Washington Post media reporter Paul Farhi reported on Friday that employees in the Washington bureau of NBC News strongly pushed against the return of Nightly News anchorman Brian Williams in a February meeting with NBC executive Deborah Turness.
They expressed angry embarrassment that “Williams’s embellished statements about his reporting exploits had damaged NBC’s credibility and that he should not be permitted to return to the anchor chair.” One person who attended the meeting described the overall tone as a “bloodbath” for Williams.

According to a new Vanity Fair exposé on the troubled NBC News, the Brian Williams scandal appears far from over as additional examples of fabrications by the suspended NBC Nightly News anchor have been uncovered and it’s unknown whether Williams will return to the network. Inside Bryan Burrough’s 8,400-word plus piece, he reported that the investigation into Williams’s numerous claims “is ongoing” and “people who have spoken to Esposito say his group has compiled a number of other incidents that, taken as a whole, paint a portrait of Williams as a man who has consistently burnished his stories.”
