Barbara Walters Uses Mandela’s Funeral to Lobby for Ending America’s ‘Ridiculous’ Policy Towards Cuba

View journalist Barbara Walters on Tuesday used Nelson Mandela’s funeral as a way to push for normalization of relations with Cuba. Absolutely struck by the fact that Barack Obama shook hands with President Raul Castro, Walters lectured, “The significance is that maybe this may change our relations with Cuba after 50 years, because it seems a little ridiculous to me that we recognize China and our relationship but we still do not have a relationship with Cuba.” [See video below.]

She enthused that the footage of Obama and Castro was “old enemies…shaking hands.”  The host hyped, “It’s historic.”  Walters has a history of touting communist leaders.

“It’s a leak Barbara Walters doesn’t want you to know about,” the New York Daily News gossip column “Confidential” promised on Wednesday. “The ABC News doyenne pushed hard to have NSA leaker Edward Snowden at the top of her list of 10 most fascinating people of the year — but in the end was overruled by network brass,” said a source. Snowden did not cooperate.

“She had a particular fascination with the former NSA contractor, we’re told, because at one point she believed he would be chosen as Time magazine’s Person of the Year.” Snowden is on the list of 10, but the number-one pick remains unknown until the show airs, which is on December 18. Barbara Walters Hails 'Very Important' Separation of Church and State, Questions Swearing in on a Bible

 An irritated Barbara Walters on Thursday touted the importance of the separation of church and state. The View hosts discussed a new ad by Democratic Senator Mark Pryor, under fire for supporting ObamaCare, in which he labeled himself a Bible-believing Christian. Walters declared, "The basic tenet in America is the separation. And it's very important. And it's very important, the separation of church and state." Of course, "separation of church and state" is nowhere in the Constitution. Walters didn't mention this.

She added, "We talk about the separation between church and state and almost every president ends up saying so help me God." [See video below. MP3 audio here.] Walters recounted, "Now, most presidents swear on a Bible before taking office, even though we have the separation between church and state."

MSNBC’s quasi-conservative darling Joe Scarborough seemed right at home as he guest-hosted ABC’s The View on November 12, walking on set arm-in-arm with Barbara Walters before taking aim squarely at folks who dare to be further on the right than he.

Appearing on the show Tuesday, Scarborough lambasted Republicans who were unhappy with Governor Chris Christie (R-N.J.) for hugging President Obama after Hurricane Sandy in 2012, claiming that, “people that would judge Chris Christie because he hugged Barack Obama, first of all, they're too obsessed on hating Barack Obama.” [See video after jump. Barbara Walters Claims 'The View' Was Never Intended to Be 'Political Show'

During an interview on Sunday's edition of the new Fox News Channel program Media Buzz, Barbara Walters told host Howard Kurtz that The View -- the weekday program she created for ABC on August 11, 1997, and is retiring from next summer -- is neither political nor news-oriented since it was intended to be “entertaining and upbeat.”

“The View is not Meet the Press,” Walters said even though she admitted that “a lot of people do get their news” from the show, which features a discussion among five female co-hosts on a wide variety of topics. However, she noted that there was no panel on what Kurtz called “the national melodrama over the federal shutdown” because, the 84-year-old newscaster said, “I didn't think that was entertaining or upbeat.”

Sitting in a doctor’s office today, I found the October 14-20 issue of TV Guide with an interview with Jenny McCarthy, now a co-host on ABC’s “The View.”

McCarthy can’t possibly be grateful enough to that ABC legend Barbara Walters. She’s positively sacred: “She’s the Holy Grail, and that’s how I treat her.”

MTV Star/Gay Activist Dan Savage Causes Threesome Furor at 'The View'

At the very end of ABC’s “The View” on Thursday, they turned for advice on infidelity to MTV star/gay activist/sex columnist Dan Savage. (He's in favor of "sexual adventure.")  When Savage explained how he and his partner Terry Miller are not exactly monogamous, Barbara Walters jumped in to wonder about the etiquette of this process: What does Savage say to Miller after an infidelity? Walters wasn’t posing as anti-infidelity, considering her tattling about her Edward Brooke affair, but more as a Miss Manners of misbehavior. Savage quipped: “When I’m cheating on my partner, he’s cheating on me at the same time -- at the other end of the same guy.” In the midst of the furor of shock, laughter, and applause, Savage added: “It’s not cheating when everyone agrees!”

Again, Barbara Walters Jumps to the Defense of Scientology and Its Celebrity Adherents on ABC

A year ago on ABC's "The View," Barbara Walters came to the valiant defense of movie star Tom Cruise and Scientology. “I don’t believe any of this stuff, okay?” she replied to charges that Cruise auditioned potential wives before marrying actress Katie Holmes. “I think it is his religion and his faith, whether you like it or don’t like, the way Romney is Mormon and somebody else is Christian. Tom Cruise is one of the nicest men – people – I have ever known.” She added “He is a decent, hard-working man. Anyone who works with him on the set says how terrific he is.”

On Tuesday's edition of "The View," Walters again grew testy as they discussed actor Will Smith's son Jaden and his tweets dismissing the benefits of going to school. Walters insisted "Scientology has a pretty good educational program." Later, she grew annoyed with co-host Sherri Shepherd for saying "They'll get you." (Video and transcript below. MP3 audio here.)
